Since this board is virtual treasure trove of opinions, expertise, and sage advice, I think it's wise to seek pearls of digital wisdom from the gallery regarding a domain I've avoided like a Biblical plague: Modeling software. My job is requiring me to travel more than I have in recent years, thus, I'd like to demo some modeling apps to see what might allow me to do some woodshedding whilst on the road.
Given Toadroller's advice, I've downloaded a demo copy of Peavey's ReValver. Those training wheels will be fine to get me going. But, now...a noob question: what USB interface should I consider purchasing if I want good, basic audio performance without seeking Mutt Lange recording quality?

If it even matters, I'm running Windows 8.1.
Thanks in advance for your input!
