Shipping Stuff

Question

Heh all, haven't shipped anything large in a year to 18 months, and was starting to price worst-case prices. Maybe I'm getting it wrong, but prices seem to be a good bit higher.

Shipping a guitar in Uline guitar box from east to west coast Via UPS or USPS Priority seems to run in the $90s. Is this what you all have really experienced?

Thinking on selling a few guitars, and at least two good sized Amp heads. Need to get the pricing down so I don't eat too much on sale.

Who do you use?

Thanks!!

Yes, shipping costs seemed to have jumped up last year when fuel prices took a dive. $75-$90 is not uncommon now for guitars. Amps must be murder...

Some call it, “price o’ doin’ bidness.” I, however, call it a, “gouge."

I would highly recommend registering for an account on ups.com I don't pay anywhere near

that. (although this is for a regular sized guitar that would fit in a uline box) the rate is definitely

cheaper online, I print the labels on plain paper and attach it with strong clear tape

I then drop off at any retail outlet that handles ups (Staples, ups store, mailboxes or... just give it to a driver)

If it's pre pre printed there is no charge to drop it off.

If you print shipping labels thru paypal, I believe it is also cheaper than if you use the ups customer

counter.

Insurance is also cheaper through UPS online, but you have to be able to give the item directly to either a UPS truck Driver, or at one of the UPS shipping centers, not any of the local franchises.

Just under a hundred to ship from the southeast to the Pacific Northwest a couple of months ago, from my local UPS depot. I was unpleasantly surprised, too.
