Thundersteel Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 I've been wanting to build one for awhile, but most of the kits I've seen are either outrageously priced, or use PC boards.Does anyone have any knowledge of reasonably-price kits that use discrete components and PTP wiring instead of PC boards and ICs?
Bloozguy Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 I've never seen one that didn't use a PC board and an IC driver...but it would be pretty cool to build a PTP discrete one!
aknapp Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 Nixie Tube:https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nixie_tubeI've seen them in movies from the 60's and 70's but never knew what they were called.
velorush Posted October 1, 2015 Posted October 1, 2015 That's all kinds of cool! I never knew what they were called, either.
tbonesullivan Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 I've seen those. They are on my list of things to get once I get rich, after the tube-powered hi-fi system of course. They are quite cool though, and really give a nice vintage feel to anything. I like to think of them as part of the era of "brute force" technology.
Bloozguy Posted October 2, 2015 Posted October 2, 2015 IT'S A BOMB !!!!! Someone had to say it... Just don't let your kid take one to school...
