Question

Anyone have the VG price book handy?

Does anyone know what a 1977 Inca Silver Music Man Stingray Bass is worth?

Excellent condition with no fade to green.

Thanks:

Jim

Those are worth more than I can afford.  That is THE bass in THE color to make me want to sell off others just to have one of those early Stingrays.

Quite a bit, I'd wager.  Just a bit of anecdotal evidence:

I had a 1977 or 8 Stingray guitar in Inca Silver.  I bought it directly from the MM rep via the owner of the store I worked at at the time.  The rep was a friend and had no reason to BS us.  He told me I'd never find another one like it since the color was available to reps only and, as far as he knew, he was the only rep that had one.  I'm assuming that would include the basses, since I've never seen one from that era in silver.

Tom:

When I got mine, the salesman took a deposit and ordered it without telling me the color.

I told him I wanted something really different.

Held me in suspense until the day it came in.

He also told me I didn't have to buy it, if I didn't like the color.

I guess they relented then!

Ben Orr of The Cars had an Inca Silver Music Man Stingray.

I remember seeing them on the cover of some guitar magazine or trade paper and he was holding the MM.

I Almost didn't buy it.

The salesman opened the case and I kept saying:

"It's silver,

guitars and basses aren't supposed to be silver,

cars are silver"

Well, I Did tell him I wanted something other than brown or natural or white.

I said I wanted something completely different.

And that's what he ordered.

Picked it up December 31 1977.

Thanks.

I bought the VG book hoping for a breakdown in years and colors for the CLF years, but they lump all the years and colors together unfortunately.

With Gibson and Fender they do much more detailed listings.

I've been watching this one.

Take a close look at the other pictures though.

Find some on the net. Very varied prices :

this above 4000 $ belonged to Cliff Williams, I guess the price is also due to the fact that belonged to a rock star....

https://www.google.it/search?q=inca+silver+stingray&espv=2&biw=1093&bih=514&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwjgoJ37kOzMAhVOnRQKHXzcD1oQ_AUIBigB#imgrc=6bf-DnZyo6vDYM%3A

This one is from a shop, still above 4000 $

https://www.gbase.com/gear/musicman-stingray-1977-inca-silver

this one from a private seller...less than 2000 $, but it is 1979...

https://reverb.com/item/873253-musicman-stingray-1979-silver-maple-neck

As usual shops have a higher price...

hope it helps....

As it turns out, the bass went as high as $3,551.00 on eBay but it didn't hit my reserve.

The second highest bidder contacted me late that night asking if it would be up for sale again.

They referred to this: https://www.gbase.com/gear/musicman-stingray-1977-inca-silver  as not nearly as nice and mine was worth more to them.

So who knows what may happen.
