HSB0531 Posted April 18, 2016 Posted April 18, 2016 I've been going through my wife's stepdads old guitars. This one's an Aquila, and it sounds and plays great, but I can't find any info on it.
Thundersteel Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Is there a label inside the sound hole? Maybe this will help--scroll down about 3/4 of the page: http://www.catfish1952.com/favilla.html
crunchee Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 The bridge is intriguing, as it looks to me to be trying to copy, at the very least, the general look (if not function) of those old Gibson acoustic bridges found on their 1960's models. Tuners are cheap import types, though.

I forgot to take pics of the sound hole, but I don't remember there being a label at all. There was a number on the neck inside where it attached to the body.

tomteriffic Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 Thinking the same thing. The headstock label and rosette match that description and the marquetry might, but it's hard to tell. Favillas were very good-sounding guitars. My older sister got one circa 1960, 000-ish sized and it was sweet.
Camstone Posted April 19, 2016 Posted April 19, 2016 My first guitar was an imported Epiphone dreadnought acoustic from the late 60's that had the same bridge set-up as the one in your pic. Perhaps made in the same Japanese factory?

Perhaps made in the same Japanese factory? It might be the same: Favilla received one order of these from a guitar builder in Japan (Rokkoman) just before Takamine bought them out. I looked inside the sound hole and the bottom is braced left to right while the top is X-bracing. The inner label is gone but there is a serial number ?105. I'll post another picture tomorrow. This is part of a collection of guitars and banjos owned by my wife's stepdad. He was a Jazz Session player: Tommy Luca.
HSB0531 Posted April 27, 2016 Author Posted April 27, 2016 Joe G mentioned fan bracing on the top. I checked and it has it. Here's a sketch of the top bracing and the serial number inked on the neck inside.
