Eclipse 12 String Tuners

Question

Howdy!

My Eclipse 12 sting is a pain in the ass to restring.

Considering two sets of Schaller locking tuners on it. Easy enough.

Possibly with lightweight Pearl tuner buttons?

Best options?

Geoff, I couldn't say about the locking tuners, but a set of pearloid buttons is nearly a must.  Does just enough to even out the balance (and snazz it up a little).

For what it's worth, just about all 12-strings are a PITA to restring... :D

I never had ANY problems with stringing my Hamer 12 string electrics.  Then again, I cut my teeth on a RIC 360/12, so pretty much anything is easy to me after that.

True, dat.  My first was a 366/12.  After that Ric and a certain Yamaha Pacifica with a little curlicue in the headstock, the Eclipse is pretty easy.

Haaa... That's not any kind of answer to my query and no help at all. But it's super awesome that everything is easy for you - brilliant, attractive, talented and humble, haha. :)

It's not overly problematic and I'm not an idiot. I'd like to accomplish two things - save time by using locking tuners, which I do on a lot of my gigging guitars (200 nights a year for the last 15 years), And also relieve some of the neck heaviness inherent in the design, as some of the other owners can attest to. Does one of you guys have some insight into this paltry dilemma?

I remember somebody posting pics of their 12er with Pearl buttons for at least one of those reasons. Anybody that's still here?

Is there a better source than AllParts or StewMac?

Thanks

:)

Whoah.  Lighten up, Francis.

Here's a pic of my old Eclipse 12 with the pearloid buttons, and YES there are other (cheaper) alternatives to ALLPARTS and StewMac, but I'm sure you don't need MY help finding those. :)

Okay Chris, I'm a fan, but - Why are YOU so sensitive? I asked a legitimate question.

You have to admit - that was a couple sentences of pure douche, off-topic and self-serving. No relation whatsoever to what I was asking. I can't imagine that is a surprising revelation, or stings at all? I'd imagine you could arrive at that conclusion yourself and hopefully laugh it off. Please, let's work together.

In any case, thanks for the great pic and I'd be glad for your help, if you'd care to share it. Maybe others could benefit too.

Sorry you took it that way.  That wasn't even remotely close to my intent.

No worries!

Chris- and any one who might be able to help- Where can I find Pearl tuner buttons for an Eclipse with Schaller locking tuners?

Many thanks

I did the pearl button thing for my Eclipse 12 and it evened the balance out nicely.  I got them at AllParts, not too hatefully expensive, IIRC.

My biggest gripe with restringing a 12, besides the proximity of the buttons/tuners and just plain number of strings is that if I put several through the bridge at one, I seem to inevitably geta couple of them twisted around each other and don't realize it until they're on the post and starting to get tensioned up.

As for the time and trouble, you need one of these...

Those tuners look amazing. Especially against the blue and black.

Geoff,

eBay seller Sporthitech has Schiller mini M6 buttons in some very interesting materials like koa, black mother of pearl and elephant ivory.  No pearloid at the moment, but I think I've seen those listed previously.  Look for "Tone Ninja" buttons.

I bought ivoroid and tortoiseshell  plastic buttons from this seller and the equality was excellent.

Not necessarily cheaper than Allparts or StewMac, though. $40 per set of 6
