I gotta ask though, what does ASAT stand for?

Oh God! Please don't open that can! So many worms, and it always gets so messy. And I think the only guy that really knows is long gone.

The party line goes this way...

ASAT is a military abbreviation for "anti-satellite"; the name was suggested by author Richard Smith after he read an article about the Air Force's ASAT missile. Both Leo Fender and Dale Hyatt reportedly liked the image of a guitar shooting down things in space, and hence the name "stuck".Nov 25, 2010

Bring on the naysayers!

Indeed, Leo was enamored of military aircraft and hardware: STRATOcaster, F-100, Sabre, Invader, ASAT, etc.

Okay. I appreciate your responses. Thanks much. But, I still can't get asshat out of my head. Maybe there is a Fakyu (or whatever it says) asshat in the future. :)

It's not right. The prior answer re: military jargon is correct.

If it's any consolation, the exact same thing comes to my mind whenever I hear ASAT. Too much MAD Magazine as a kid, I guess...
