Bosmitch Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 For a few weeks I had been wondering if you can use the TonePrint editor and get sounds that you cannot access through some combination of knob settings, but didn't really time to research it. The answer is YES, and what's really cool is that this morning I took my vibrato shaker pedal and turned it into a flanger. I didn't do this purely for fun - my experimentation did have a purpose. I needed the vibrato for a couple of songs but liked the idea of having a flanger to play around with, and my pedal board doesn't really have infinite real estate. The cool thing about the TC pedals is that the modulation section has all the parameters for all the different mod effects, so while you have 4 knobs, you have over 10 parameters that you can change, either hard set or assign to a knob. Anyway, I don't want to turn this into a TC ad but I am really excited to be able to hack a pedal and turn it into 2 different ones...
gorch Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Now it had reached that even pedals become hacked. Anyways, great you've made it. It again shows that digital product circuits often have more functions in it than provided outside the case. Or sell several products out of one circuit.
Teh Posted October 9, 2016 Posted October 9, 2016 The only downside to the tone editor is that you can't save your custom edit as a TonePrint to recall on the fly. Once you've changed the patch, you have to plug the pedal back in to the PC via USB to reload the custom edit.

I haven't yet gigged out with my TC pedals, but I can't imagine using more than one toneprint in a single night. I was reading that you can load toneprints from your iPhone by holdings it close to the pickup, but I have not tried it yet and not sure I would want to try that in a live situation. If my setlist requires settings that are that different, I will probably just use my Line6 HD500X and program different presets for different songs (which is what I used to do). Unfortunately, the editor doesn't allow you to load a flanger TonePrint into a Vibrato pedal. The software recognizes the type of pedal it is and will not allow loading a TP for a different type of pedal, even though it can accommodate those parameters. And I am not a good enough software hacker to get around THAT one. I think TC should just create a generic Molulation pedal with 4 knobs (hell, give it 6 knobs!) and allow you to turn it into a vibrato, chorus, flanger or any combination thereof, using the editor.
Armitage Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 I've seen people have added new amps to the Line 6 Helix... I don't know how they're doing it.

That's a great idea. And put ins/outs on the front edge AND sides so it'll fit anywhere on your board. The Tone Editor deal has a lot of great options to choose from.
murkat Posted October 11, 2016 Posted October 11, 2016 Nice. But, The Neunaber Slate (stereo), You can program the slate ( hence the name) to any of Neunaber's (stereo) pedals, and then some (without hacking), and with the ext pedal, plenty of options.

Interesting. Thanks Murkat. Definitely a more elegant (and hackless) solution. The only disadvantages I see are: 1) more pricey option, 2) pedal plus Exp footdwitch takes up more real estate on the pedal board 3) only 3 knobs (but if the EXP allows you to cycle through different presets, I guess you can achieve what you want with 3 knobs). While the Neunaber+Exp may be a more straightforward and less restrictive solution, I must admit that taking a $100 pedal and turning it into two $100 pedals feels pretty cool to me.
