tommy p Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Since we're guitar players (mostly) here, I would bet a fairly good number of us listened to a lot of his work with Pat Travers back in the day. http://ultimateclassicrock.com/peter-mars-cowling-dies/
Steve Haynie Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 I most certainly did listen to Mars Cowling, and I got to see him with Pat Travers in the early 80's. Learning his bass lines and making them sound right can be frustrating.
cmatthes Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 Elduave sent me a text about that last night. We did an impropmtu cover of "Boom Boom (Out Go The Lights)" at a gig last weekend. I just started playing the bassline without even thinking about it, and Elduave said to keep it going and it happened. Definitely wore through a lot of PT vinyl (and cassette) back in the early '80s. R.I.P., Mars.
Rich_S Posted March 22, 2018 Posted March 22, 2018 "Go For What You Know" is one of the great live albums of the late '70s, largely due to Cowlings' funky foundation. RIP, Mars.
