diablo175 Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Anyone ever swap out a 21 fret Strat neck for a 22 fret-er? It looks like there's enough room between the 21st and the neck p'up for an additional fret.
Travis Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 I went the other way, from a 22 fret down to a 21 fret neck on the same body. It worked that way, should be fine vice versa. The extra fretboard is just a tiny bit of an overhang, plenty of room for you.
scottcald Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 Just hammer one in there, looks like enough room. 😆
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 You alreadsy know this but... As long as the scale length is correct, you can go either way without a problem (and so long as the heel fits the heel-rout) (y) I wouldn't cut the existing board for a new fret myself: I'd just swap the neck...
tbonesullivan Posted November 14, 2020 Posted November 14, 2020 The Fender Stratocaster neck pocket hasn't changed in decades, until recently. They just built a "shelf" for the 22nd fret. Swap away!

That's what I'm doing- gonna get Shane to whip me up a custom maple replacement neck with a maple board, 22 jumbos stainless frets and a proper Floyd nut shelf. Naturally, the head stock will be reversed for optimum mojonation. 🤣 Then, Josh Gravelin has couple of special SC p'ups that will be going in it!
