Dave Scepter Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 Anybody have a sure fire way to stop the squeal of a non potted covered pickup without altering the tone?.. I've watched a couple of videos... requesting personal experience
gtrdaddy Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 If it's the pickup cover that is causing the feedback you can remove the cover, run a few beads of silicon under it and solder it back on.
Jeff R Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 Cut two thin strips of 3M double-stick adhesive foam tape. Doesn't compress as thin as silicon or similar goops, but easy to separate and no residues left behind if it's just an experiment at first.
Dave Scepter Posted April 6, 2021 Author Posted April 6, 2021 Is there a way to isolate the cause of the squeal?.. it's a bridge pickup and It's fine up until about 9... but at full volume 10, it starts to feedback "when I stop playing"... I have worked around it by turning down the volume when I stop playing or I hit the toggle "neck" pick up with no volume to stop the squeal... I love the tone of this pickup and don't really want to wax pot it... so maybe I'll try either the silicone/wax balls or the double-sided sticky tape "topside of the bobbins" in the first stage of troubleshooting to see if that's the problem... Thanks guys... Fingers crossed!
Dave Scepter Posted April 6, 2021 Author Posted April 6, 2021 Urethra!! & duh... while I was sitting on the throne this morning, thinking of the parts needed and running the procedures through my head, it just dawned on me, why don't I just remove the damn cover to isolate if that's the cause of the squeal?... it's amazing what a good night's sleep can do... DUH~😂
kizanski Posted April 6, 2021 Posted April 6, 2021 I have been lobbying for Winding Reform for years, but Big Pickup won't let that kind of policy gain traction.

Did the trick.
