woodpile Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 Hey guys, are there any decent inexpensive (say under $50) locking tuning machines? I have an import Hamer Duotone that needs new tuners and don't want to spend too much but need them to work ok. I'd prefer locking tuners for quicker string changes.
Victor (Fret Friend) Posted December 29, 2021 Posted December 29, 2021 In England, we buy Vanson tuners. Supposedly made at the same factory as Wilkinson gear is made. I even know luthiers who use Vanson tuners. Look at $40 a set but you may not be able to get them outside of the EU. I use them myself: thay are excellent!
hamerhead Posted December 30, 2021 Posted December 30, 2021 Gotoh. I just got a non-locking set for my Shishkov. Recommended by our own Murkat. Who can argue with that?? Or... If you can wait, I'll have a set of locking Sperzels available......

cmatthes Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 The Gotoh locking tuners are surprisingly good for the price. Pro quality stuff, and very gig-worthy.
scottcald Posted December 31, 2021 Posted December 31, 2021 +1 on the Gotoh tuners. They're great. I usually buy from these guys: https://sporthitech.com They also carry a brand called Tone Ninja that I tried and found to be good.
