JustKid Posted January 20, 2022 Posted January 20, 2022 Just saw this one on Reverb, no aff of course. https://reverb.com/item/28354336-hamer-scepter-1985-white?bk=eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJqdGkiOiI1ZGMzM2NlOS04MjMwLTQ5YTgtYjEzOC1hM2NmNzQ2NjczOTIiLCJpYXQiOjE2NDI2NTAwNTIsInVzZXJfaWQiOiIxNTQ3OTMiLCJzZXNzaW9uX2lkIjoiMTRmZjhkNzQtNDVmOS00YTgxLWE1YTEtNmYxZWNjNDUyYjUyIiwiY29va2llX2lkIjoiNzkxMDdiOTEtZTU4Ni00YjliLWJlM2QtMzAyNjEzYTNhNGE1IiwicHJvZHVjdF9pZCI6IjI4MzU0MzM2Iiwic291cmNlIjoiTk9ORSJ9.Tw3KEClg4Uzi5mKew9DOADqv7_4ClKJrifXN778UNMM and of course there is a story - Orderd as "all white" by original owner...and suddenly there is no serial stamp. Seller's guess - rubbed off. Well, I'm thinking - how many years you have to spend rubbing off the serial, that's under the lacquer? Just wondering, feel free to chime in. Oh, and there's no USA on the logo , seller's assumption again - probably head repaint. And he couldn't connect two dots and suggest that the serial was also "rubbed off" during repaint, and the reason for whole repaint was probably the headstock break - my assumption now. May be it's me getting too sarcastic after couple of burns last year? Anyone has any recollections of all white Scepters?
1 bottlerocket Posted January 20, 2022 Posted January 20, 2022 That one has red flags all over it. It's a case queen but the serial number rubbed off? The white Scepter models that I have seen all had matching a matching head stock. The lack of a serial number would be enough for any sensible buyer to take a hard pass. For all anyone knows it could be a parts builds.
Drew816 Posted January 20, 2022 Posted January 20, 2022 Man, you guys are so "suspicious," I believe all of this! And I'll give him $350, if he pays for shipping...
Ham Rex Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 May I ask was this guitar ever offered as a overseas made version? Does this joint look correct? I wrote to the seller to ask if it was repaired or refinished pointing out the SN is ink stamped or stamped and couldn't wear out as it is under the lacquer and the finish would have to wear out for it to be missing. I also brought up the missing USA from the logo thanks to JustKid pointing out these issues. I asked if he would adjust the price as the originality of the paint color, logo are questionable. He responded he is unaware of any repairs or refinishing the guitar. He said he would go down $500 if I wanted to buy it. It looks like great project guitar but not at that price but what do I know. Anyway just wanted to share some info I gathered about this guitar. Thanks, M.
cmatthes Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 - NEVER offered as an import line guitar. - The neck joint is correct. - The guitar has CLEARLY been refinished - 100% no doubt about it. - Incorrect logo. - Serial numbers on those guitars wouldn’t just “rub off”. That’s just idiotic.
Bennyboy-UK Posted January 25, 2022 Posted January 25, 2022 Run a fucking mile from that one - the level of horseshit is splendid.

And as I always say - if a setneck ( neckthru) guitar is refinished - 9 out of 10 it had a headstock repair and the seller will usually offer you 1001 tales of arabian nights, just pick one and start believing it. Or, accept the fact it was damaged. Offered $700 to the seller...now thinkin - is he gonna sent some molotov cocktails my way? 😁
