polara Posted February 17, 2022 Posted February 17, 2022 Over the next two years I'll be selling quite a lot. The missus and I are getting close to making the move to Europe in 2024 or so, and it's a royal pain to move tons of stuff so it's not just guitars. Bicycles, furniture, I even sold my Triumph Bonneville. Second, I'm going to be making some kind of career move in 2024 too. Maybe just be a consultant, maybe get a gig with a nonprofit... but the firm where I've been a partner has sold to a multinational, so we're working on my transition out, with what they pay for my shares being... in the ballpark for not quite RETIREMENT but being able to work a normal job where I don't wake up at 3am in a cold sweat night after night. Stay tuned. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - So, for your consideration. It's listed at $2000 plus $150 shipping on Reverb. Shipping is high because the original 72-year-old case wouldn't protect a marshmallow so I'll ship the case in one box and the guitar in another (inside a fat-ass gator TSA case). For the cheep bastids here I'd do $1900 PayPal'd and shipped. https://reverb.com/item/41758439-gibson-es125-1950-with-original-case-outstanding-condition?publish_confirmation=true If you're looking at this, you know what it is. This is an unusually nice old 125, I think. First, it comes with the original case, which is rare. Second, no cracks, major scrapes, or structural damage, though the usual play wear. Third, plays nicely: the action is surprisingly low, and the pickup is really strong. Finally, not much has been replaced. The end pin, and I think the pickguard. I got in a trade with a guy who worked at Big House Guitars, who are collectible Gibson fanatics. We both were pretty sure it's a 1950, as it has the slug (non-adjustable) pickup poles, but it's not quite right for a 1940s ES125. You can hear it all over the album Ghost Stories, by my band I Am a Rocketship... I used it for most of the electric and acoustic parts. It's not the most practical guitar for gigging, mostly because it's so nice I'm afraid to damage it. I sold it once and the buyer returned it because he reported it was buzzing. It was indeed buzzing, because the bridge had moved a hair in transit. I turned the thumbwheel under the high E side of the bridge a quarter turn and the buzzing went away. So PLEASE check the setup and don't leap to return because it's not a brand-new guitar. Even a new guitar needs to be tweaked after shipping and set up to your preferences. SHIPPING IS HIGH BECAUSE... the case, which is good shape for 72 years old, is pretty lightweight. I can't really think of a way to pack it so the case and guitar arrived in top condition. I will shipping the case alone, filled with bubble wrap and in a box, and the guitar separately in an ATA hard case, also bubble wrapped. I just don't want to risk messing up such a nice old guitar. So yeah, you'll receive TWO guitar boxes.

The easy choice is Sweden, as missus and the dottir are both Swedish citizens, but none of us are that mad for the long winters. She has a flexible skill set (biomedical engineering) and I can do marketing and brand consulting form anywhere, and dottir will likely go to university in the EU as her citizenship buys that. We shall see. I love Portugal, but we all can speak enough French to survive.

stedge Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 Well, though I am not interested in that very cool guitar, I wish you all the best and good luck in your and your family’s new endeavors. Sounds like fun, and I wish my career translated the same way. Good luck to you!!!!

I was not in the Bottle Rockets, it is a movie reference to a 1996 Wes Anderson film with the Wilson brothers.

1 bottlerocket Posted February 18, 2022 Posted February 18, 2022 The cost of living in Portugal is certainly much cheaper than in the US and the healthcare system is ranked top 12 in the world. Sweden sounds great to me, as I love the cold weather. We lived in Norway for three years and absolutely loved it, despite the weather that wasn't so great most of the time. Beautiful guitar BTW. I used to gig a 175 back in the day, but the thing grew legs and walked off without me knowing! It was a real beater and I loved it, sort like a pair of worn in jeans. Too bad it got stolen. If I was in the market your 125 would be sold.
