Abrhm Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Hello I have been bitten by the Hamer bug! I am looking for a clean, stock early sunburst ( sustain block bridge) or a later model studio custom, with MOP inlayed headstock. The guitar must be completly stock. ....any opinions either way on the sustain block bridge vs the later gibson style?thanks in advance for any responses! Abraham
jujisque Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 There may be the oddball response that the Gib$on style is better, but I'm sure that the overwhelming response will be that the sustain block is the superior bridge system. Oh, and welcome to the Hamer Fan Club. I think you'll like it here.
Travis Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 I like the Sustain block and the tune-o-matic/stop tail equally. They're both great bridges in their own right. I'm sure you'll be happy with either one. Good luck on your quest.
Abrhm Posted March 20, 2006 Author Posted March 20, 2006 in the time it took to write the first post a 1982 special was just listed buy it now on ebay for 385! it was already sold by the time I clicked!...ouch...guess it wasnt meant to be....was a good looking guitarAbraham
Guest pirateflynn Posted March 20, 2006 Posted March 20, 2006 Give this one a look.http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=9258Oops...miss the part about completely stock.
Abrhm Posted March 21, 2006 Author Posted March 21, 2006 Anyone have any standards they would part with. Also could anyone point me in the right direction of a dealer that deals in old Hamers........which standards had the V shaped headstock?....Thanks again Abraham
RobB Posted March 21, 2006 Posted March 21, 2006 Abe, I'm not sure if Hamer made any Standards with a 'V' headstock. The korina Rick Nielsen models (Korean ones, too) have them, but the bodies are shaped like Gibson's '50s "Futura" prototypes. Here's a Gibby Custom Shop 'V'-head Explorer, but it's QUITE spendy:http://www.gbase.com/Stores/Gear/GearDetai...spx?Item=866283And another one from the good people @Wolfe Guitars:http://www.gbase.com/Stores/Gear/GearDetai...spx?Item=840035
Abrhm Posted March 21, 2006 Author Posted March 21, 2006 I believe I saw a standard for sale on this website....now I cant find it....can anyone help?thanksAbraham
mrhamerman Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Abraham,As for the '82 Special listed on eBay for $385, I bought it.http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1I wondered (and am waiting to see) how bad of a hack job was done when someone switched the sustain block for a tune-o-matic bridge and whether the action can still be set up properly, but I couldn't resist the price (even if it has been totally bastardized). I play slide guitar regularly, so if all else fails... it should be more than adequate for that use.Wish me luck...
hamersandstrats Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 MrHamerman,That's funny-I bought that guitar two days before you did with a BIN of $325.00 (Search completed Hamer sales) I didn't pay for it right away (it was over the weekend and I wanted to transfer cash instead of paying on credit card through paypal). I went to look at "my" auction on Monday, and it listed him as "no longer a registered user." I then did a Hamer search and sure enough, there was the guitar listed again. When he listed it the first time, he created another name for himself, then cancelled the name-he is listed as no longer a registered user. I didn't bother to email the guy. I wouldn't send any money to him after that BS anyway. To sell a guitar and not even give a guy 48 hours is ridiculous. No emails from him either, other than the standard eBay invoice.
mrhamerman Posted March 22, 2006 Posted March 22, 2006 Wow! So far so good from this guy... I've got two e-mails and a UPS tracking number, but I'll keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for the heads up.
