DaveL Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 some subtle Hamer content... looks like a special and standard... always loved angel city, should have been bigger than they were.
RobB Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Reeeeeeeeally like The Angels. They had a tight, rocking sound, two brothers on guitars and a charismatic frontman. What's not to like?I always thought they sounded like a mixture of AC/DC and The Cars, in a good way.
rj2858 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Agreed they should have been bigger - hardly anyone I knew ever heard of these guys. Songs like this; www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0ZKuqy1Pro And this; Listen for a little homage to AC/DC around the 3:00 mark, look for a Prototype late, and could that be a white Standard Bass with matching headstock? Sure would be rare!
Disturber Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Never heard of them. But this song was cool. A little long, clocking in at 4.41, but it rocks.
hikarateboy Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 a band I was in in the 80s covered that song and I liked Angel City (the angels) but I preferred The Sports. Anyone remember video concert all in early 80s pre mtv erahttp://youtu.be/auxhTFf24BQhttp://youtu.be/TAVzYLPgUlc
hikarateboy Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 Maybe time for a new 80's new wave video thread. Some good hamer content there I'd start with graham parker although not sure he has any videos with them in it.
wil50n Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 I became aware of Hamers largely because of The Angels, and that Countdown video of No Secrets from 1980, I was 16 at the time. The Brewster Brothers played my local club a couple of years ago, I asked Rick if he still had his Hamers, he said he didn't, but he wished he still did. Rick is a master riff writer, and composes some fantastic melodic solos. In my occassional cover band, we perform 4 songs from the Face To Face album - After The Rain, Take A Long Line, Coming Down and Marseille. We also do Am I Ever Gonna See Your Face Again and No Secrets. Great songs and lots of fun to play. The Angels are still playing, but without singer Doc Neeson, who has some issues. The current singer is Dave Gleeson from the Screaming Jets.

kenjones Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 some subtle Hamer content... looks like a special and standard... always loved angel city, should have been bigger than they were. Weird. I have never seen that video. I have always seen this one: Big, BIG fan BTW.
morningstar Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 How the hell did I miss this band? One of my favorite songs too (so I am old, sue me)... Rawk morningstar Dayumm I did not miss them, I just did not know who this favorite was at the time. I just loved this song. I always thought it was Great White or similar. I Don't Want To Face The Day Can't get the link to work. It's there though. end add on
gi_zuk Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I'm a big fan and I agree that they should have been a lot bigger than they were.In one of the recent bands that I was in, we covered "Take a Long Line" and I'm hoping that we can cover "Marseilles" in my current band. The Angels were way before my time so I didn't know that they played Hamers until I got a re-released, French version of Face to Face, which had concert photos from that time period. I believe that all their equipment (van) was stolen in Chicago, just as they were set to go on their first US tour with Cheap Trick. Thus, Rick hooked them up with Hamer.
Disturber Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Funny. I had The Sports Who listens to the radio in the car the other day. It's on the Stiff Records Box Set. If you don't have that CD collection, get it now! It's filled with this type of stuff, four five discs of brilliant music.

I had a quick play of it a few years ago, nice.http://www.mccannsmu...tars/33556.html
