BCR Greg Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Many of you that have been around will remember this bass that BillyBob brought to me.... "Not enough strings!" Sez BillyBob. For those of you who do not know this man, he has a doubleneck Hamer Chap Bass with two 12 string necks. He LIKES strings. So the plan was to go 12 string. After considerable thought and testing on my end, the decision was made to go 8 string, because the need to stay acoustic was more important than the need for 12 strings. On an earlier version of the board, I posted the 20+ images of the rather painstaking and mechanically difficult repair, I'll save you the trouble and just post the final product... This is BillyBob smiling. BillyBob is happy. Why this retreading of old biz, you ask? Well..... gravity decided to rearrange the bits, and BillyBob cried. Big men crying hurts me. So a MORE DIFFICULT job was undertaken. Repairing the break, and fabricating a new, shorter head, to clear a case and to take some of the turning radius out of the beast. The result..... So now, BillyBob is smiling. My work here is done. BillyBob cries no more.
Steve Haynie Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 I like the Chuck Taylor graphic in the new version.Yup, the obligatory feet in the guitar photo with a new twist.
Guest pirateflynn Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 I like the Chuck Taylor graphic in the new version.+1 lolI see the tailpiece support but I'd like to know how else you dealt with extra string tension. Neck plus acoustic body.
Stokesdead Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Thats really cool. And yes nice shoes. So when am .....I gonna have a good day ~CS
Hamer Bass Head Posted May 11, 2007 Posted May 11, 2007 Billybob not sad!!!!! Billybob Happy!!!!!some may question the point of such a thing... but ask anyone who's experienced it in person...it's cool as hell to play and sounds amazing. If I knew it would have been such a success I'd have pursued it a long time ago. I really like the new look and I can't wait to come get it,but work dictates I have to wait until thursday to come over and get it.

BTMN Posted May 12, 2007 Posted May 12, 2007 Great work as always. Some Dean forum guy PMed me about that a lil while ago. I'll have to link this up for the Bass players over there to check out. Speaking of which, Billybob it would be really cool to see you bring that down to Tampa Town for the next Dean Open House Jam and Factory tour in February. Just to further entice you. Here is this year's D.O.A. open house bass. This is the prototype. They made 15. First ever 5 String Hardtail bodied Bass. The guitar, a run of 50, is a Trans Blue Hardtail guitar. only the second time they have done the bass and guitar in the same model.
BCR Greg Posted May 14, 2007 Author Posted May 14, 2007 Well, BillyBob shows up in his Long Island Yellow cab about an hour ago. He talked his boss into letting him drive all the way here in a company car! Damn. BillyBob smiles again... And Butcher showed up as BillyBob was leaving, so we had an ugly shirt show..... My work here is done. Again.
Jack C Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Billybob picks up his bass and Butcher shows up? Sounds about right. I'm getting my oil changed tomorrow and I wouldn't be surprised if Butcher shows up. The man doesn not miss an event, no matter how small. The bass looks awesome.

I'm getting my oil changed tomorrow and I wouldn't be surprised if Butcher shows up. The man doesn not miss an event, no matter how small. The bass looks awesome.I dropped an old lady off in philly, and my boss said "go ahead you've had a good day already", so off I went to lemoyne.... what can I say.....wow!! I mean WOW!!!! it was cool before but needed the headstock repair, and Greg really listened to everything I had to say about the previous incarnation... The string balance is superb and the general sharpening up of details really makes this bass something very special. I'm sitting in front of the computer and playing it as I check out my usual haunts. Thanks again Mr. Keebler....I mean Platzer...you did an outstanding job and it was well worth the wait. And I love that whenever I show up out there Butcher appears... funky shoes shirt and all. What a great way to spend the afternoon!!!!
serial Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 Butcher is actually everywhere-he just pops out to make his presence known at selected moments. With the advent of computers and cell phone technology, this whole scheme will eventually be discovered. Either that or he's cloned himself umptynine times!
ajay315 Posted May 15, 2007 Posted May 15, 2007 The good news: BillyBob is happy. BCR Greg does dayum fine work. The bad news: it appears the vertical hold on my monitor is broken.
