specialk Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 Glad to hear you found some good ones. I've heard good reports on the BBQ but have never tried one.
BubbaVO Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 That's another one of my favorites! The BBQ snarls....
Punkavenger Posted March 26, 2010 Author Posted March 26, 2010 The Area 61 sounds especially fine ... sustain for days. Now I need one for the neck position. Trem spacing doesn't affect sound whatsoever. I like the cream color ... breaks up the mother bucker look which I wasn't super fond of. Barbecue sounds FAT. Pain in the ass to install but I handled it. Needed longer screws and springs which no one sells in SB. And locking nuts for the Area 61 which took days to find. A little grinding with the Dremel ( on the 61 ... no A5's were altered in this experiment in case returning to stock is a necessity) and Voila! Sounded good stock but I wanted a beefier more LP sounding humbucker and the single coil noise was really bugging. Thanks ZR!
mathman Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 No HFC Expert how to with pictures?I have the 84 proto II I just bought. It sounds really good but I can't seem to stop the idea of trying new pups in it.edited for spelin
e-isle rock Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Have Area 61's in my Centaura. They sound really good. Didn't like them at firstthen I finally got around to replacing the stock cap with a .022 and now all is well!
ZR Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 I'm glad you could put them to good use! Looks killer and I'm sure it sounds killer too!I've been in the process of trading out pickups lately and I may have some Dimarzio virtual blues pickups that might do well in that neck position coming up soon...Truthfully, I've never been a big fan of those guitars but yours looks awesome!
G Man Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 Good choice. I've got a BBQ in the bridge of my Phantom Custom and it sounds huge. Mine is paired with a babybucker in the neck, thanks to BCRGreg, and I couldn't be happier with the tonal possibilities of this guitar.
