  1. The ebay final fees would be $110. Plus the additional $35. to Paypal (ebay owned). That's $145!!! That is getting too much for me. CraigsList is the way to go. I'm getting more and more out-of-town calls from people using national CraigsList search engines to find listings.

  2. OK So I received this "new" Hamer and guess what - yes it's like new. Perfect. Kind of amazing considering it is eBay. Most guitars I've bough on ebay, including a 12 string Eclipse recently, had unpleasant surprises like damage or wear not mentioned in the listing. This one was exactly as shown, and even looks better in person. I've been complaining about the pickups in the Eclipse 12 in another post but in this, my first 6 string Eclipse, they sound fine at first listen - something like the phat cats. I'll test and listen more later. Been wanting a 6 string Eclipse and don't think I could have done better than this!

  4. I have a butt load of U.S. Deans here, their V with a hard v-shaped neck is probably my fav guitar after Hamer's Standard Custom... I've probably bought more brand new Deans then anyone else. A dozen custom orders by '82 alone. Way back in '82 Dean Z sent me what turns out to be the last surviving actual framed print of the Girl in the Water photo. I still have it, all other copies and the negatives have been lost. All the posters etc now are blown up from ads, with all the text intact, and missing a lot on the sides. It got to a point that Dean was still signing my guitars, but turning down Nancy Wilson of Heart, and Sheron Alton of Toronto... It really P.O.'d Sheron when my two guitars came in the same day as hers, and mine were signed, hers weren't. I still have'm, we call then "The Twins", a Cherry and Brazilliaburst set of Vs with block inlays. http://s5.photobucket.com/user/warmitag/media/My%20Gear/Armitage_Dean_Headstock.jpg (I'm having a heck of a time posting photobucket pix on the forum from work...) A lot of people don't know it but Toronto wrote and recorded "What About Love" but it didn't make it onto their album for some reason and it got passed on to Heart who had a big hit with it! Toronto - What About Love As far as Dean's go, I found the '78-'83 Deans really inconsistent and would want to play one before I bought it (unless I got it from someone trustworthy). I could pick five off the wall and love three and hate two. I think the first bunch of years for the Time Capsule series were killer, then some iffy issues showed up like multiply binding bleeding issues. I have two or three of the new Custom Shop guitars and still prefer the original Time Capsules {ducks}, though the Pat Backer pickup is a fav!

  5. You know, it's probably a good thing that when I asked about Hamer making shredders they said no. I would've gladly paid out for a Watson. By the time they had changed their mind I was married and dropping that kind of coin was strictly verboten Wait, no, it's not a good thing. I still wish I had a Watson!!

  6. Dean and Hamer shared much but they were made so differently. Hamers are more refined and consistent but a good pre-83 Dean (I disagree with Serial, many excellent Deans made in 82 although the rot had started) can be up there with a Hamer. If you have a 80-83 Hamer with non-standard binding (I.e.: anything other than cream ivoroid) the chances are that the binding material was borrowed from Dean. The Dean name was sold on in the eighties and all sorts of abominations appeared - the Chandler-made USA guitars from the late eighties were about 4 inches thick for example. Even though it eventually settled down to the current Dean USA in Florida, with Dean Zeilinsky even returning for a while, it could never quite be the same. Insert your own sad and disappointed parallel with any possible Hamer resurrection here.

  7. Hey guys. I'm the one who bought this one. I'll let you know how it turns out. As per my other post a ltitle while ago I may try and do a pickup swap. Then again this may be one not to mess with. Will see.
