  1. So..A few of you know I've been searching for my old snakeskin Cali for quite some time. I was perusing the Hamer USA facebook page and ran across this one and asked if it was available for purchase? As luck would have it it was and now it's mine. I'm still looking for my old one though

  2. My guess is this was inventory for a store. Storage auctions can be fun. My wife bought a unit for $700 one time. It took me months to wade through all the shit. I told her the next time she gets a bug up her ass to go to one of those sales, I'll just give her $700 to stay home.

  3. "I gotta buddy that knows everything there is to know about empty cardboard boxes with descriptions of collectible guitars scribbled on the end of each one. I'll call him, get him down here and see what he says they're worth."

  4. I have 15 guitar boxes stacked at the top of my storage unit. Empty. But stacked lying flat so you can read brand names on the bottom flap from the door. I figure that if I don't make the payments someone will be really bummed about the great deal they thought they got.

  5. I finally got everything back in one room, all plugged up, and had a chance to play everything back-to-back. I was a little surprised by my takeaways. I just ran straight in with nothing in any of the loops for all of these. The Vintage Modern and the Splawn Super Sport sound very similar to one another in their gain structure and respond very similarly. Speakers are a bit different - NeoCreams for the SS, and a Greenback/Fane M65 mix for the VIntage Modern. They are close enough to the same family though. The Vm is a little louder overall, but man that SS thumps for its size. I hate that Mesa cab for everything except for a Mesa or this Friedman. I don't know why, but the JEL 20 just sound great through it, and in general, that amp sounds great. It's more open than the Splawn, more mids in there giving it a lot of body. It does that through every cab I have, but that Mesa RectoVert 2x12 really seems to make it go. The Bogner Shiva has the least gain on tap out of any of these. I get a little worried when an amp won't "get there" for my preferred lead tone without a boost, but this amp has me rethinking that. The other three above all pretty much will dial in my preference for basic lead tone without any help from anything, but damn, the Bogner is fun to just riff on. I plugged it in last of the bunch, thought, "man, I really wish this had more gain; I feel naked," and then proceeded to play it longer than any of the rest of them. In a lot of ways, it's the most no-bullshit, let's-play-some-AC/DC out of the bunch to me. Surprisingly, the Splawn Quickrod was my least favorite of the bunch. Maybe it's the cab I had it on? That's an older Marshall cab with British V30s in it, and everything sounds good through it. I lean a little more toward the 1960AX now since I put the Fanes in there (those are fantastic speakers btw), but I've trusted that 1960AV for years now to just always sound great. Suffice to say, I don't think it's the cab. It has more gain than the Bogner, but sort of the bedrock, overall tone just doesn't strike me in the same way. This isn't to say it's a bad amp - far from it. In some ways, it's reminds me of a JCM 800 more than anything I've played besides a JCM 800. And I guess overall, I've found I don't care as much for 800s as the 1959/87 SL amps when it comes to feel now that I've gotten to play through a few. I like the little bit of "squish" that they have vs. the 800s.

  6. I love the idea of laying the groundwork for a gag, knowing that you won't be there when it pays off, but it will get someone someday. It's like planting a tree, knowing you won't live long enough to sit under it when it's fully grown.

  8. Definitely not changed my mind! I paid for my Immigration medical yesterday to the tune of $700. My wife wants to stay in England for another year as the students she has been teaching for the past 3 years graduate in 2025 and she wants to be there for their graduation. So it looks like we are going next summer instead...

  9. Used to watch that STORAGE WARS show on TV. Those clowns just pissed me off to the point that I felt I owed it to humanity to slap one. It will be fun even if I'm dead and burned when they get it.

  11. Maybe it could come and be played at your house? 2005 Studio Custom made from Korina. Dig the Korina backplate. I got it with no pickups. Duncan Antiquities installed with 3 push/pull pots. Fun beast. $5000 plus $150 shipping BTW, it goes to 11. 😎👍🏁

  12. I just got an email that these are back in stock with the 36mm (brass) block; I think most Hamer's come with a 36mm block. These are a nice replacement if you have one of the 'soft' plate Hamer logo Floyd's that are prone to stripped set screws. You may want to swap over your Floyd trem bar for 'dive bomb' clearance, check your clearance prior to stringing it up. https://www.philadelphialuthiertools.com/bridge-and-tailpieces/tremolos/gotoh-ge-1996t-licensed-floyd-rose-locking-tremolo-bridge-chrome/?sku=GE1996T-C-36&utm_source=instocknotify&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=instocknotify

  13. Here's a very obscure little amp. The Khan PAK - 2 channel head. I picked up one up used and it totally rocks. Some of the best hot-rodded Marshall sounds I have ever heard. Just screams and crunches like a mother. Definitely worth checking out. 18 watts, but definitely loud enough for gigging. EFX Loop. Tiny! My only gripe is... it has a fan and it's fairly loud (Has two fan speed settings, but low is still noticable) Wouldn't be an issue on stage, but for home recording, it could be, unless you put the mic'd cab away from the head a bit. But, OMG, what a tone this little beast has. Check out the videos, I think you'll be impressed too!

  15. Man, that's cool. Also, as much as I like VH, this song is always such a jam.

  17. I know there are some Robin lovers on here. This one showed up locally for sale. I know the seller well, he's A-OK. I'm happy to facilitate and ship if necessary. https://www.facebook.com/share/HpBtKoGqVWttVo3t/ Ad Text - USA made Robin Ranger in cool sea-foam with matching headstock. This one has a chunky neck and a whammy bar. Very versatile guitar. Gig bag. Would trade toward the right acoustic. $1,500

  30. Pretty much the only pine guitars I would consider need to be made from harvested old pine from barns / etc. Definitely want it to be stable, and not have any possibility of resin seepage.

  31. Boxed Junior Golden Gloves in Orlando at the Orlando Sports Stadium until I was 14. Trained Wing Chun for about three years. Basically, I learned to be ready. And keep my eyes open. Everything is a weapon and nobody is bullet proof. My dad bought me a Walther PPK for my eighteenth birthday. That's a "James Bond gun" for those of you that don't know. I have a concealed carry for it every day. Be ready.

  32. 5 years ago I sold my 81 Special of 30 years. I promised myself I’d never sell it. It was a bit of beater and had truss nut issue. I figured it can’t be THAT special. I can always buy another. I was hard up for cash. $650 I think. It hurts thinking about it. I spent many, many lonely weekend nights poverty stricken with guitar, as a college student. That is the biggest reason I was able to part with it. Too much negativity. I went through MANY trials and tribulations. $1099 cash local pickup. The kicker with this beauty are Voodoo 59 Peter Florence (RIP) PAFs. Top shelf value. My son waiting on candy green Phantom. He was amazed at how beautiful this guitar is. The pickups rather impressive

  33. I've said before, ever since Dimebag Darrell, anyone who comes onto a stage should be considered fair game. There's no more "you don't know if he was really a danger" because it's happened. Years ago, after the Monica Seles stabbing incident, somebody jumped on the ice at an NHL game. Linesman Ron Asselstine (a former biker) spotted the sky, skated at him and buried the guy into the boards and tackled him. Someone asked after the game if he thought his actions were a little over the top, and Asselstine said something like, "No. Not at all. You saw what happened to the tennis player? My job is to protect the players. I don't know if this guy has a knife, or a gun, but I know he's not supposed to be there."

  34. WT actual F??? There's just so much wrong about that situation. That's one thing I never worried about in the old cover band. My co-guitarist was 250 lbs of mostly muscle, some martial arts training and a license to carry concealed, my drummer was a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, and I was 225 lbs with a fair amount of muscle and a black belt in Japanese Kempo and an Il Dan Bo belt in Tae Kwon Do.

  35. Correct Billy Idol's Guitarist Mark Younger Smith (Rock The Cradle of Love). There is the purple one which shows up from time to time that Jack Frost used to own and previously owned by Mobster. Those MSY models were very cool. The Fungi seems to be growing. The Scepter Vee is pretty unique. Take a double look at those inlays... Hamerica

  36. According to The Book, four of the custom designs were built for Billy Idol guitarist Mark Younger Smith. I'm not certain if any others were ever made. The context and mash up of design elements remind me of the customs built for Steve Brown of Trixter.

  39. Tech 21 Trademark 60 amps are really nice and usually cheap. I had one at my bands practice space for a long time and it always sounded nice (Especially with a 2x12 cab) My other sleeper amp choice would be a Quilter OD200 head. Love that tiny amp. Kicks butt and very tube-like. Always had one in the car as a backup.

  41. I shifted away from Hamer though I still have my beloved custom Cali (that ain't going nowhere) the doubleneck Cali and the Snakeskin Virt. I'm quite fond of HEL's and could make an argument for the Spitty 2 (RAF) being my favorite ax in the harem. Ted Stevenson makes a serious kick ass guitar, on par with any of the boutique builders. But my fave BRAND these days seems to be Charvel. Really pleased with their MJ Series and have had solid performances with their MIM DK 24's.

  42. Randall had a series of MV tube heads in the 90’s that were brootalz. A friend used two rack mounted versions and an Alesis graphic eq and got an amazing metal sound. Not sure of the model. Found it: RGT100HT. These are killer rock amps and are indestructible.
