I was listening to Queen this morning and for some reason stuck to the second guitar solo in "Save Me". Here it is: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/8033493/save_me_solo2.mp3 It's very short (no more than 8 or 9 seconds) but it's still expressive and flashy, and it also fits to the song perfectly. Brian May is such a master of phrasing and dynamics! Managing to be so concise and so musical at the same time can't be but the work of a true genius. Now, do you have other "short and sweet" guitar solos like this one?

As of letting Dr. May to know about it, the following pictures lead me to think he might actually like my guitar quite a bit: What is funny is that my RS-V idea dates from at least 1990, and I didn't know May had used a V as a backup but until a couple of years ago. Also, not so long ago I noticed he was playing a V on the Princess of the Universe video -I think it was Ana who made me notice so, actually: I asked about it here and was told it was a Washburn-something he grabbed around to avoid using his RS on the clip. So, I guess my Mayday-V will make now much more sense to everyone... even to the man himself!

Knowing our friend Diablo here, I think Dibs won't answer this time.

WOW! Total shredding BEAUTY. Congrats, man!

Thank you. Now it's built already, it looks easy; but it took me several iterations on paper to steer this project to where I wanted it to go. I wanted it to remain as loyal as possible to the original RS, with a vintage edge and lot of class, but I also wanted a Vee. As I don't like cheesy metal shapes nor "over-pointy" stuff, I opted for the classic 58 V. I think I completely got it when I decided to go with rounder pickguard corners and with the tremolo plate exactly like in the RS. I'm very proud of this guitar and have no words to thank the builder, Ronny, who is a caring, skilled, knowledgeable and open-minded person, and who also had to deal with my caprices at every single level -and also contributed with his more than valuable input and experience, of course. So, as he has materialized my vision 100% to my expectations, I will never be able to pay him for that, in spite of what I paid him for his job. If this thing plays as good as it looks, I'll consider my guitar-related dreams realized. I thought the same at first, but now I think it's hard to tell how big is that market. At least it's a quite risky move going that path, for sure... but who knows anyway?

TA-DA!!!! My custom order is done. This is a dream come true, something I had always had in mind and never had the chance to get it built -had previously contacted RS Guitars and they wouldn't do it. But thanks to gorch here, I finally found the right builder to make me this, exactly to my specs -chunky neck and 24.75" scale included. Please, meet my Scheithauer Mayday-V: Now it's done, ready to get shipped to me. But I guess she will spend some few weeks at gorch's in Germany first -still have to arrange this with him, as he seems now not very sure about it. In any case, I can't wait to have it in my hands!

You need one of Avril Lavigne then. -

I guess they included Beau Dommage because they are quebeckers and having at least one French-canadian artist would be politically correct. That's heavy BS, but well... that's how things work here. BTW, if a French artist was mandatory, I would have preferred Offenbach. I know almost nobody here knows them, but they were quite big and they did rock. -

Ham-er. Is it a ham-eater, a ham-maker... or the term applies to both? My wife says that she would love a book about recipes with ham.

Is the HFC mentioned in the book?

Value of the most expensive guitar you own?

The most I have paid is $1500. It was for the Hamer Camo Vector '81 I still own. -

Don't know. I guess I just assumed the value and the price were both in the same range. Wrong assumption, now I see. -
In which price range is your most expensive guitar?

2013 "Buy No Guitars" Challenge - **WINNERS ANNOUNCED**

I knew I had no chance in 2013 (4 so far, and counting ). But at least, as Ana would say, I assume myself. -

The Queensryche saga -long read, but it's worth reading.

Agree with your big IF. And also agree with what you say about the "new ones". For a while I kept buying QR stuff after Empire, and Tribe was certainly the "less bad" to my tastes. But if you ask me now I wouldn't be able to mention one single song from that album to save my life -actually, not even a single somg from any of the post-Empire albums... and I swear to God I've listened to them all. -

For the old stuff, maybe. But if they come with something new and of good quality, I don't see why they cannot be accepted as QR. And, while I know only few bands survive the loss of their lead singer, in this case the new one is up to the task, I'm sure. Chris is another story, I have to admit. He was an important driving force in QR, besides being a great player and songwriter. In my head, QR lacks of elegance, mistery and class without Chris' input. But well, at least he wasn't the lead singer, right? -

That's the first time I've heard someone I agree with about QR on Empire. (had a few good tunes) My favorites were Rage for order and The warning and of course MC. Will reserve judgment on the new stuff when I hear the whole thing, it's definitely a step in the right direction though. In fact, I think it's also the first time someone thinks exactly like me. Those first three full albums are the ones for me too. Empire was a total let down in my books. Overthought, overproduced, snobbish, too commercial and anything but rocking. The heavy finesse of QR was gone and it never came back ever after. That's why I profoundly disliked Empire. Back then for some reason it was uncool to say you didn't like it. But I didn't. Sad but true. So, if the new album takes a heavier direction, that's just better than the viscous and flabby Empire. We'll see! -
You don't!
