Guy nicely performing Brian May solo performance
zorrow replied to gorch's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
Now I need one more pedal in my rig -or to replace my Liverpool by this one. Damn, gorch! -
Absolutely insane street performers
zorrow replied to jettster's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
The guitarist has a lot of stamina. His constant shredding and vibrator-like tremolo picking skills are just insane. I can rip it up to some extent, but even in my shredding years, when I practiced 4 or 5 hours a day, I was way below that speed. Back then I quickly began compensating with vibrato and phrasing, as soon as I understood I lacked the discipline to become a true shredder. I wasn't willing to spend so much time practicing, so began faking it. But this guy also has great vibrato, phrasing and bending skills, don't you think? -

It's Buenos Aires, Argentina. -
In my case, my first exposure to them was "Taken By Force". I used to play that one with my friends over and over. That's how I noticed Urlich Roth. Eventually that "Gold Ballads" EP (or whatever its title was -now I'm lazy to Google it) also fell into my hands. Those two, plus the omnipresent "Winds Of Change" on the radio, it was almost everything I knew about the Scorps for a long time. But now of course I own their entire discography. I tend however to overlook Matthias Jabs' work in favor of Uli's. I guess then it's time for me to have a closer look to Matthias' playing, as he definitively is a great rock guitarist.

OK guys, you asked for it, so I uploaded it to FileDropper and here's the link: Scorpions Live 1979 in Tokyo, with Matthias Jabs. When the page above will show, just click on the "Download This File" button, then enter the asked characters and finally click on the "Download Now" button. I tried it and it's pretty fast. Please let me know if you get it properly. PS: Edited to fix the link.

...and boy he never ceases to amaze me. He nails Uli Jon Roth's stuff perfectly, and then some. What a great player! Well, I had already praised him here several years ago, when I watched the Scorpions show at Wacken with Uli and Michael Schenker. He shone on his own in spite of sharing the stage with those other two monsters. But now I'm getting even more convinced about his greatness. What a competent rock guitarist Matthias Jabs is! WOW!

More on V-picks, this time unbuffed!
zorrow replied to zorrow's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I find the 1980 perfect for both electric and acoustic. Yesterday night I actually played my acoustic with it and it was just great. Yep, I think I found the good ones for me -but no, I won't get rid of all the others, just in case. -

^That's why I won't do that with the picks. You can still find tons of picks everywhere at my home, and that's cool because I always have a pick I reasonably like at hand when I grab a guitar to play, no matter where in my house I am. -
Holy effin' crab, that's very scary! I travel frequently to NJ and often see bears and deers, but never inside guitar cases. No, seriously, it looks disgusting as hell. Luckily, I've never seen any of those worms or maggots before, and sincerely hope won't ever get any of those critters coming from Europe or the US or the rest of Canada to my place. Cat and dog hair is already borderline inside the cases I've bought from you guys.

Got four 1980 V-picks last week, with unbuffed edges. I think these are finally the ones for me. I've been using them for one week and they give me the perfect combination of attack, "whoosh" and slippery factor. I had used Dunlop Big Stubby 3mm in the past, which I like but wear too easily and don't have what I call the Brian May "whoosh" in their attack. I also copied the Mojo picks, which I cut from coins and file to my own tastes. My personal version is in between the Mojo pointy and the blunt ones. I do like them, but again they wear relatively fast and produce not enough whoosh. I addition, I have to make them myself and coins that are good enough for this aren't very easy to find. That's how I began trying some V-picks. I liked the Screammer model so far. They are shred-friendly, don't wear and are very articulate. However, they lack of the attack I get with my metal ones. That's how I decided to try one with unbuffed edges, and I loved it. I think then I'll stick to the 1980 model for a while. A pic of them, from the V-picks site:

Does the Phantom A5 count as a shredder? Or the GT?

I don't trust him anymore, but Happy Birthday the same!

WOW! Great guitar. Welcome around!

The "modern" Standard headstock... is it legal on a Shishkov?
zorrow replied to zorrow's topic in Shishkov Guitars
I should be in the "most people" category, really. The order I intend to place (for which I asked a quote) should not represent any major problem, given I like it quite simple. But yes, the custom part of it is a big part of what attracts me to Shishkov. I basically want a very simple guitar with some few tweaks. I'm asking questions in order to explore how open the shop will be to tweaks. Happily, I'm getting the right answers. -
Sorry. I'm just asking all the questions I have, just to understand what the options might be when the custom orders will take off. So, this is my question: Will the fatter headstock of modern Standards be available as an option? I know the Ultimates sport the thinner, 4D ones. So, is the fatter hockeystick headstock illegal, or this was a purely arbitrary design decision? I'm just being curious.

Hmmm... You didn't need to say that, ya' know?

I found this: Took from here: http://www.gotaukulele.com/2011/02/ukulele-beginners-wood-types-and-their.html If it applies to ukes, it should also apply to guitars, right? Yep. Kinda spalted Korina. I'm intrigued.

Made of wood from the mango tree: I took the picture above from here: http://bacchusdo.com/product/bexmg.htm It actually looks like Bacchus is opening a new line of guitars made in the Philippines with mango wood. Some more shapes available: And yep, it's mango wood: I bet it provides a very sweet tone!

FS 1976 Standard

Next add we'll see from some around: "FS: ALL MY GUITARS!" -
Brad Gillis is to me the most American of all the American rock guitarists. I also like he's not really a virtuoso, but a maximizer of his own strengths. His solo in "Don't Tell Me You Love Me" is very cool and was the first I tried to learn from a tab. I cannot claim I succeeded back then, but I did learn a ton from those tries, as well as from his educational VHS, which I still have. BTW, Brad's solo album "Gilrock Ranch" is very good, as well as his two live releases with Ozzy (the CD and the VHS). His tone on those was truly great. Never got into NR though. As others here have also stated, they are too poppy for my tastes, even if they're great musicians. Yet, Brad Gillis remains one of my biggest inspirations/influences... in spite of the fact I'm not really a whammy bar guy.
