  1. I’m breathing and still resisting. Would prefer a Y2K’s flametop Standard with a thick neck. My red one is addictive. A C-neck with .850”+ and .930”+ at the 1st and 12th frets, respectively, is just great for me. But we’re hijacking @The Shark’s thread. Please someone grab that Fredo guitar, it’s an awesome deal.
  2. Totally agree. The guitar looks fantastic. And one-piece limba body? Yum! I cannot stop playing my Korina Standard. Guys, please grab this thing before it’s too late!
  3. What’s that Paolo’s surname? What’s his website? Gonna order one with a flamed top and a chunky neck… unless someone around had a 2000’s flametop Standard for me to buy it? 😉
  4. When I was a teen I loved The Commodores and Lionel Ritchie solo. From Earth, Wind and Fire I know just the hits, but that’s awesome music too. I’ve always liked commercial R&B, including the Jackson 5, Kool and The Gang and Chic, amongst others. Not sure at this point I would go see them live, but their music is always a blast. I’m glad you went!
  5. By the way, part of the deal was that, if HELL played in my area, I would let Kev borrow it for a couple of songs. That’s why I’ve tried to keep it as it was, because that’s the way he liked it. But HELL no longer exists and Kev has moved on. Yet, I will keep the pickup and the chrome rings. One never knows, right?
  6. I don’t know how the vintage DiMarzio will work out. I finally got a double-creme from Peter, as well as two period-correct creme mounting rings, but he still needs to ship, and then I’ll have to install everything. I will definitely keep you posted. The double-creme Slammer is of my interest too —thanks a lot for mentioning it. So, these are the things I need to address: 1- I dislike the sound of the bridge pickup on this guitar. 2- I dislike the chrome mounting rings. 3- I understand that double-creme (bridge) + zebra (neck) is the “standard look”, so I’ll go with that. I like that look too. 2 & 3 above are easy to address. 1, however, is a matter of taste. I’ll start with the DiMarzio PAF, and then will decide what’s next.
  7. Totally agree! Surprised, but to each their own, I guess. 🤷🏻‍♂️ What @velorush mentioned above, and also described the way I exactly perceive them. The V I put them on became ALIVE thanks to those pickups.
  8. Just for the record, I have a set of Schlabotnik/Ultimate on one of my Korina Vees and they sound FANTASTIC. So, I wouldn’t mind putting more modern pickups on this guitar, provided they sound to my tastes AND look right. Also, I had once an 84 Vector (sadly sold and still regret it), which had its original Slammers and they were just PERFECT. I think those were the “updated version” of the Slammers, a bit hotter than the first ones. I LOVED them. Nonetheless, it’s true vintage pickups have a high “coolness factor”, but that’s not a hard requirement for me. In short, whatever sounds good (to my ears) and looks right (as per @kizanski specs 😛), it will be alright.
  9. I’ve Googled and have to admit most black Standards do look like this:
  10. So, you think a double creme is more “correct” than a double black?
  11. Ah, forgot to mention that I have enough guitars to cover the tonal spectrum of a classic Standard, while I don’t have any guitar in the tonal palette of this one, as it’s configured as of right now. 🤷🏻‍♂️
  12. You guys know I’ve owned Kev’s 4-digit “Standard from HELL” for ten years already. I’ve used it to record rhythm parts on some of our songs, but it’s not a guitar I play very often. Not only it has a pretty skinny neck, which is something I don’t like much, but it also has installed a bridge pickup Michael Amott gave to him, which sounds too dark and compressed to my tastes —and that’s why I tend to use it for heavy riffing only. So far I’ve respected Kev’s “legacy”, to call it some way, but lately I’m feeling seriously tempted to install a black Slammer on the bridge of that guitar… or maybe even a set of Schlabotnik/Ultimate. I’m also thinking about replacing the chrome mounting rings for cream ones. What do you guys think? Would you keep it “Kev-compatible”, or simply reconfigure it to a more “period-correct” look and sound? Please, let’s discuss!
  13. Thank you! They sound great, yes. That’s why I recorded all my leads on our last song using the Korina. And for the new song we’re working on as of right now, I will play both. PS: I will take later a short video of me playing the red one and will share it here.
  14. Frida (L) and Agnetha (R). And if I get really OCD-ish, I’m going to mix them exactly like that in our next song. 🤪
  15. Looks awesome, indeed, but it’s the neck what actually got me. Most Hamer axes have too thin necks to my tastes.
  16. One more pic, because I guess the top deserves to have one pic just for it:
  17. Here we go, this beauty had a thicker-than-usual, extremely-comfy-to-my-hands neck, so I said to myself “what the heck!”, made an offer, it was accepted, and now it’s going to rock and sing in my hands as a red bird like this one should! 😎 Before you guys ask, it’s a 2007. It came with all the candy in the case, including the COA. Now my Korina (the blond) got serious competition (the redhead). It’s like having now the two then-beauties in ABBA to my reach! 😜 Only one not-so-good thing: the pickups aren’t the originals. It has two Bare Knuckle humbuckers installed —The Mule on the bridge and a Cold Sweat on the neck. They sound great though, very focused, articulate and sonically rich, with their respective own voices as well. Yet, I’m getting a Schlabotnik/Ultimate set from Josh, to make this thing as HFC-correct as possible. 😉 So guys, time for you to drool over its pics, and time for me to play it —it is very addictive!
  18. Can I contribute and ask to include a newcomer in the OC? It’s like tipping the lap dancer, you know. 😜 Do I PayPal [email protected]?
  19. Looks like another great individual of our Hamer family is gone, once again, too early. My deepest condolences to her relatives and friends.
  20. Just "old stuff" here. These days I'm back to my roots, listening to the bands I used to love when I was younger: King Diamond, Annihilator, Queensryche, Crimson Glory, Yngwie Malmsteen, Helloween and Fates Warning. I've realized we tend to enjoy much more what influenced us during our formative years. We do evolve later, develop new tastes and so on, but our core remains the same --well, at least for me.
  21. This: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jtfvW1A9kU Some serious guitar playing there, though I'm not into country at all. BTW, the guy can sing too.
  22. Great acquisition. I love the shape and look of those guitars, though the Floyds are a big turn-off for me. But if you like having fun with the bar, that was a score. Congrats, man!
