Actually, I can get my AC15 w/ celestion blue pretty darn loud and clean. Enough for my taste. The TT definitely gets dirty faster, but like Brewey said, that's the nature of the beast and I'm liking that nature.

I have some NOS 5751's sitting around for just such an occasion. I love the breakup on this thing with the gain around noon, well really anywhere on the dial. A midrange control would have been nice, but my ear adjusted to the tone after about 20 minutes. I need to plug in some P90s and a Les Paul. That's why I was thinking that a dual amp setup would be ideal. Fender clean and TT gain. Man, that would rock. Or even a Classic 30 for clean, mid gain and then the TT for higher gain plus combinations....

I picked up a used MIK Orange Tiny Terror on TGP. The amp arrived yesterday, but I wasn't home last night. Fired it up after work today into a Mesa Recto 1x12 cab with a Celestion V30. The outside portion of one of the speaker output jacks came off during shipping, but I found it in the bag and put it back on. I am not a fan of board mounted input or output jacks on an amp that's supposed to be good quality. The amp fired up just fine and I was able to get some tones I was really pleased with, especially with a 3 hole duotone. It also cleaned up nicely with the guitar's volume control. If I played in an original band and could live with one sound, I could gig with this rig. But, I play in a cover band and need more clean headroom. I could see using this as my dirty amp and a Fender as my clean amp with an A/B/Y switch and some pedals.

I played 6 sets this weekend. I played one guitar; a PRS McCarty Trem. Freakin' awesome axe.

1978 Sunburst Bound & Crowned - $1250
DavidE replied to Craig's topic in For Sale - Wanted to Buy - PIF - eBay & Other PSAs
To expand your buyer population, I might suggest that you could agree to take the guitar to a UPS store and have them pack and ship the guitar at the buyer's expense and at the buyer's risk. That way you don't really have to deal with packing and shipping but don't have to sell locally. -
Grace Jones or Michelle Ngdcello/Ndegeocello? ;-) We already have pics of Denise....

Thanks again all. I had a great weekend with friends and family. I'll have the biopsy on Wednesday and hopefully will have results on Friday. My gigs this coming weekend may be the last for a while so I'm going to make the most of them. -

Damn Al, that was freaking hilarious!!! I must say that I am truly touched by the support I'm getting here. I've always been on the other side and now have a real appreciation for what it means and what it does. Thanks to each and every one of you. I'll let you know when they tell me I'm lucky that I was in the 10% inaccuracy and it's just inflammation. If not, I'll let you know what they're gonna do to save my fat ass. Either way, I'll be around to offer tree fiddy for your 2k guitar for a while. And Zoner, a public thanks for your PM. You guys rawk. -

Dear Penthouse, ooops, I mean... Dear HFC: I never thought this would happen to me. Ok, maybe I thought it was possible. Long story long, I went to a pulmonologist a week and a half ago to get more help with my asthma and she saw something on my x-ray that she didn't like. It wasn't on my last x-ray in January 2007. I had a CT scan the next day which showed a 1.5cm (remember your metric system? ) nodule in the lower lobe of my left lung and a nearby inflamed lymph node. Today I had a PET Scan to try and determine whether it is cancer or something else. Well, it lit up and she called it "borderline mild" positive results. For anyone in the know, the uptake was 4-5. But the lymph node had a 3.5 uptake. I still don't know what it is, but it's likely to be cancer. I am being scheduled for a CT guided needle biopsy to finally determine what it is since it could be inflammation, but I don't know how likely that is. I will turn 45 in September. I smoked lightly for maybe 2 years in college (1/2 pack/day?) As you might guess, I'm looking for all the help I can get so your prayers, thoughts, vibes, good wishes and even tree fiddy jokes would be appreciated. Advice from the cancer survivors would be helpful as well. Sorry I can't be at BCR's on Saturday! -
Was that the "Sparkle Strat" you have? That's a really good sounding guitar... THat's the one.

Very cool Matt! At least we know it's in good hands.

I've also heard some people claim that Tom Anderson Guitar's have no "mojo", which I never understood. It's possible that a great deal of consumers scoff at the concept that builders are out fendering Fender or out gibsoning Gibson and their reaction is that the precision and beauty accomplished by the newer builders has taken the soul out of the instrument. Nonsense. That said, I had trouble getting my PRS Signature that sound the way I wanted. I think it was a combo of the 25" scale length, 24 frets and the relatively thin mahogany with thicker maple top and thick finish. The guitar seemed to reflect the vibration of the strings directly to the pickups rather than resonate throughout it's parts. But no doubt, that guitar was a testament to fine art guitar building and is worth a lot of money today. I only play 22 fret PRSs, though I might entertain a 24 some day. I'm thrilled with my CU22s and CE22, but I like McCarty's even better with the slightly thicker body different neck angle, but still 22 frets. I skipped the PRSs last night and played my Les Paul and strat. The Les Paul sounded great. Just freakin' great. But it's just not as comfortable for me to play. Never has been. When I pulled out the strat, my bass player says ("I don't like lace sensors." I told him that I tried some "nicer" pickups in the guitar, but went back to the lace sensors. When I plugged it in and played it second set, his head whipped around when he heard it. He was shocked at how good it sounded. I ended up playing the strat two sets to the Les Paul's one. That probably gives you an idea of what I like.

"He said the rest of the stuff has been downgraded - nice looking generic guitars with no mojo." I don't have to work there to know that this statement, mainly the second part, is pure unadulterated bullshit. I've played old ones that I thought sucked. I've played new ones that I thought were magic. The only thing downgraded has been the quality of the 10 tops. You can still get a killer one, but not all of them would have been 10 tops years ago. And the top on my Hamer Standard Custom that gets delivered to Camstone today as good as a private stock top and it's not upgraded.
-
Ah, you must have only tried the wide/thin neck. I hate that neck. On the other hand, the wide/fat neck is perfect for me. I can even handle the regular neck which is a bit slimmer.
-
Actually, saxes aren't too terribly bad. My son just got a vintage Selmer Mark VI Alto for $5500 from a reputable shop.
-
LOL!!! Right.... whatever. Bill, apples and oranges. And I'm talking Hamers to Hamers. The days of the $300-400 Hamers are over unless you want a simple shredder. I'll never find another Artist Custom for $650, but I did several years ago etc....
-
1) I know many who won't buy a Hamer because they hate the headstock. 2) Well, ok. 3) You sound like Ed Roman. ;-) Same argument I heard about the "shelf" on the Hamer singlecuts. Funny, the heel on the PRS never feels big and the shelf on my Monaco Elite is a non-issue too. 4) You can get almost every PRS model with dots/moons.
-
That's not a very good explanation. What's the reason? I get sounds I like better (probably a combination of pickups, wiring and 25" scale), the trem is second to none (nothing comparable on a Hamer), I get a greater variety of tones with the 5 way switch, the ergonomics feel great, the wide fat neck is the best ever etc.... Oh, I wouldn't replace my Artist Custom with a PRS Hollowbody though.
-
I own several really nice Hamers. I gig with my PRSs. I just sold my awesome Hamer Standard Custom because I hadn't opened the case in two years. There ya go.
