Guitar Neck Facts for dumb MFers
ceeb replied to Thundersteel's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
I just threw away all my cleaning shit, and next time I'm gonna just hock a lugie on thar and wipe 'er down. Also gonna swap out all my rosewood fretboards, since that is the worst possible material for a fretboard, maybe I'll go with Cedar or yellow pine. But most important, and he really hammers this home at the end, he is right. He's RIGHT!!! -

1998 PRS Custom 22, Amber Quilt 10 top, Birds, wide fat neck, gold hardware, all original hardware, no mods ever. I'm the original owner. $1800 Its been well taken care of. No buckle rash, dings, chips, scratches, spindles or mutilations. I haven't played it a whole lot, as I have had quite a few guitars over the past 12 years and kept the rotation prtty steady, but this one would fall out of the rotation for long periods. Obviously a very nice top. The weight? Not sure exctly, but it's not heavy at all, campared to others, a bit on the lighter side for these. The birds are quite nice - see detailed pics It's got all the case candy, hang tags, tools etc, a 1998 Catalog, Two of what I call "colourform" transparent pick guards. They press on and come off see pics One new set set of PRS strings The only issues with it: Gold finish worn off the bridge - see pics the "R" in Reed is lifting (I have a replacement decal) - see pics Pickup covers are dirty not sure how easy they will clean up- see pics Paul Wrote "Best Wishes Charlie" on the control cavity cover - not an issue if your name is Charlie too Pics:

U2 - War and Joshua Tree Lucinda Williams - Carwheels on a Gravel Rd (one of the best of all time IMO) Most any Who album Skynyrd Nothin' Fancy +1 on Matthew Sweet - Girlfriend I'll cheat with a few compilations: ZZ's 1st greatest hits Steely Dan's 1st Best Of Squeeze - 45s and under Before the ipod, there were bands that I liked their entire catalog, now I skip over a lot of tracks, some because the radio wore them out, others because it doesn't strike me right then. Luckily I have about 7,000 songs, so it's not long before something strikes me.

I don't mind being seen playing any guitar, as long as I can make it sound good. Not that I have much in the way of cheap guitars, I have a Dano 12ver, a $100 Epiphone Junior, Mohogany set neck single P-90, (in fact I got that planning to use it as a bar guitar ((Musicians Fiend blowout)) On second thought, If I was a pro musician, I'd bust out the quality stuff for gigs, because I imagine first impressions count for something. Some of those funky old National Airliners are cool. I've seen pros with really funky off beat stuff making some incredible and unique sounds. I remember from Matt Smith's Chop Shop Seminar, "For slide you really want an off beat guitar, the weirder the better."

Hard to say, but I'll try The Who was the first band I liked, other than the top 40 bubble gum crap I listened to up to that point. Mick Taylor era Stones, But keef is prolly more of an influence, cause he's a rhythmn monster. The Rev. Billy G. Early ZZ Top Steely Dan had an huge influence on me, but I don't think you'd hear it in my playing, maybe thought process or writing Jim Croce - there I said it. I don't like any of his mellow stuff, but stuff like "Roller Derby Queen", and "Don't mess around w/ Jim" I enjoyed from the first time I heard it when I was 8-9, and I still enjoy his more raucous stuf (I use that term loosely) Rubber Soul and after era Beatles More than one person has told me my playing style is Allman Bros.-ish. Odd because I'm not a huge fan. I like them OK, and I guess people are refering to Dicky more than Duane, as I rarely play slide. Other than that, I've been influenced, in a big way by so many I still hear stuff today that hits me, whether new stuff or just discovered, that immedietley impacts my approach to music, playing, thought, technique.

Guitar "Closet" picture
ceeb replied to Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame's topic in Hamer Fan Club Messageboard
This is my setup. Nothing real fancy. I tore the deck off the back of my house, and used all 5/4 1"x6". Functional and rustic. Everything I build has a rustic element to it. I thought rustic was a style, recently I found out it comes from Latin and means "peice of crap" -
Another thing that is rarely mentioned on these guitars. The inlays have kind of a silver hue to them. They took the time to consider that, and must have requested it specially from the supplier. Pretty neat!
-
That would bum me out. The 1st fret inlay was supposed to be an exclusive thing just on those guitars, now you just have to ask for it. Not really complaining, just sayin', these are limited edition, and to pay big $$$ for a guitar it's nice to have something special. I wanted a Newport Pro in the Ruby finish, but couldn't have it, because it was exclusive to the elite(?) (the one with the trapeze tail piece) I like the look of the 30th anni. inlays, the V-dots with a full Victory at the 12th. But that is exclusive to those, (at least for now) The full Blown Vics are too busy for me. PS. I bought the 25th ltd with the intention of stashing it away until Hamers 50th anni, then putting it up on flea-bay. That is no longer the plan. I don't play it a lot, I have a bunch of really nice guitars, but a few times a year, I'll take it out and put it through the paces for a few days or even a week. It really has a unique sound, and flat out rips the Rock'n Roll.

DIE! DIE! DIE! <jumping up and down on this thread>

This are outstanding guitars!! They have a unique sound, and play like "I can't beleive it's not butter" or maybe Parkay. I let Sir Dan have the rights to this pic, that is my # 11 That pic was taken by the dealer, I forget who, I think he's in VA. That is Lou with the same guit at the last CT summer Jam (not really last, just the most recent) And here it is after the studio was remodeled (sometimes a small flood can be a good thing, not that I'd welcome another.) Here is my plain'o 25th anni also with Z90s. It rips. (I felt it would not be proper form, not to comment parentheticlly here, so- This picture was taken for scale, just so you could really appreciate the ungodly size of my organ)

I'm with you on the tuners. They don't look right on a modern guitar.

Hope it's a great day.
