  1. I think if you're having fun, still believe in the songs you're doing, and can present it with some credibility, you should keep playing whatever it is you want to play. For the most part, I don't feel right about playing songs about teen angst anymore. But that's me. Everyone has their own threshold. Some have the persona to pull it off. I don't. I still like listening to those songs though. -FunkyE9th
  2. I'm currently not in a band, so I'm working on learning solo arrangements of songs. I picked up a Brazilian guitar book and currently learning a solo arrangement of "Meditation" by Jobim. Also working on the other songs that I already know, but paying more attention to the details of how I'm playing (e.g. my tone). I'm having wrist and pinky issues, so progress has been slow. I'm also trying to get better at doing my own arrangements, so I'm learning more about chord substitutions. Still haven't finished any arrangements of my own. Got bits and pieces but nothing complete. My soloing is for the most part scalar... find the key center of the song and away I go with the solo. So to get out of that mode, I've been tryiing to add more arpeggios in my soloing. It's frustraiung, 'coz now I have to think instead of feel and it tends to sounds like an exercise, or too planned. I have to really track the chord changes and I tend to get lost and revert back to my scalar ways. Hopefully I'll get to a point where I don't have to think. -FunkyE9th
  3. Heard EVH, bought a Kramer Pacer with Floyd Heard Martin Taylor, bought a Yamaha AEX1500
  4. My 1st "real" band started out as a Blues Brothers type of band, so James Brown was a big influence. RIP JB. -FunkyE9th
  5. Congrats!!! -FunkyE9th
  6. I'm 40 and still playing, but I lean towards music thats is in my opinion not youth oriented. Somehow at my age, I just can't see myself being in a band singing about teens angst. I think some music can span different age groups and some are more geared towards the younger crowd. Van Halen is one of my favorite bands, but I have a hard time seeing a 60 year old Van Halen and still projecting the same image from when they were in their 20's. AC/DC singing "You Shook Me all Nght Long", as much as I like the song, at 60 does not conjure up a very good image in my head. The Stones on the other hand is different IMO. I think the music by the Stones and the Beatles span a wider age range. In my opinion, the bands that last for decades make music that span a wider age group or actually musically evolve over time. Having said all that, I plan on playing for as long as I can. At my age, it is getting harder to find bands that I can play in. -FunkyE9th
  7. I used to gig with a 4x12 cab and a rack. Now I'm using a Reverend Kingsnake set to 20W. I like being able to go to a gig with guitar on my back, amp on my right hand and pedal board on my left. One trip from the car to the stage. -FunkyE9th
  8. Thanks guys, -FunkyE9th
  9. The nut on one of my guitars came off. What type of glue should I use to fix it? Super glue OK? I was just gonna use super glue until I went to stewmac and they have all kinds of glue....confused. Thanks, -FunkyE9th
  10. Wow!!! That is nice. -FunkyE9th
  11. I like the barber ltd.. .http://www.barberelectronics.com/LTD.html Check out the link and hear audio samples with a Hamer Vanguard. -FunkyE9th
  12. The one in the middle looks great! Is that Korina?
  13. Thanks. I might have to try that one. -FunkyE9th
  14. Hey Scarp, The pup looks like it will require that I put holes on the guitar to mount the pup ring. Is that right? Not sure if I'd like the idea of putting additional holes on the guitar. Thanks, -FunkyE9th
  15. Anyone ever A/B'd these 2 guitars? Any opinions? Korina probably lighter and brighter? I have the Artist Korina P90 and I really like how light it is. I'm thinking of getting an artist with HB to use instead of my studio. I typically use the studio to get the "heavier" HB sound. That's old skool heavy not really hi gain stuff. So I'm thinking of Artist Korina HB, but this guitar doesn't seem to come up in the used market in my price range. So looking I'm into the artist mahogany HB. I suppose the other option is to put a P90 sized humbucker on my Artist Korina P90. Is there Seth sounding P90 sized HB? -FunkyE9th
  16. I think I'll try the flyer or business card with web info and a messgae encouraging them to sign up for our email list online. Thanks everyone, -Ferdie
  17. I'm thinking of making postcard size flyers with dates listed for our upcoming gigs. What I'd like to do put these on tables during gigs, so that people can see where we're playing next. Do you think it will piss off bar owners if the flyers promote gigs at other bars? -FunkyE9th
  18. here you go... http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fusea...iendid=65444278
  19. +2000 Fast Track 2 is awesome....versatile, beefy and goes great in a Daytona. Great info...I've been looking into changing the bridge pup on my G&L legacy. It currently has Rio Grande's Stelly, which sounds pretty good, but It can't do heavier stuff. -FunkyE9th
  20. It looks like it was a lot of fun. I just ended up staying in bed sick watching "The Breakfast Club" while occasionally checking for new MWJ pix. Can't wait to hear the mp3s. -FunkyE9th
  21. I teach at a music store on Saturdays. The store "makes" it's money from lessons and not sales of gear. They really cannot compete with big music chains as far as sales, but their attitude is the more people buy stuff from the big chains, the more people will take lessons. IMO, the store is just making enough to keep going. The store doesn't carry much in terms of brand names other than Seagull and Godin. A lot of what they sell are consignment. They have down-sized (square-footage) the store and are in process of having an owner change. You're in a different country, so I really don't know how it is over there. But over here, I really don't know how a music store can compete unless they offer lessons. The stores that I've seen that don't offer lessons and are able to stay in business are the ones carrying the boutique gear. -FunkyE9th
  22. I remember you outbidded (sp?) me on that Green Studio. How do you like the guitar? Bringing it to the HFC jam? I might get in on this Green Artist. -FunkyE9th
  23. I hope to be there. -FunkyE9th
  24. besides cosmetics, whats the difference between artists & studios? Artist is hollow (or chambered whatever the right word is). Studio is a solid body. For some reason, and I don't know why, I really think the Phat Cats will sound good on hollow body guitars. That's why I think it will work better with the artist. I also think it will work better with non-maple top Artist...but these are just guesses. I've never tried Phat Cats on an artist. -FunkyE9th
  25. no kiddin? i was thinking of putting a phatcat in the neck slot of my artist. what kinda top is your studio? It's a maple top. I also tried the Rio bastard, didn't like it either. I ended up putting a TVJones. I think Phat Cats will sound good on an Artist though, but that's just my guess. -FunkyE9th
