well...when one buys 5-10 guitars a year, most likely he will not find it, although if he's lucky he might. I've bought over a thousand easily in a course of 10 years. And I tell you , this shit really happens. And sometimes it's a few thousand dollar guitars in new condition. I got no effin' idea how do they get there. Another question is - when the person sells the guitar, doesn't he open it to look at it? doesn't he see it? how disgustingly dirty your should be if you allow yourself to pass your personal items to someone with this kind of bonus?

Here is something I always wanted to ask. Does anyone gets them ones in a while? I personally do not have them inside of my cases ( and I have more than a few) and they do not breed in my environment. But occasionally I'd buy a guitar and find some pretty dry and crunchy man-in-black kind of creatures inside , that I'd call worms. Never seen one alive, but this fact somehow doesn't make me feel better. So, anyone seen them? Anyone knows what they are? Do the lay eggs inside the case? and most importantly - HOW THE PHUCK DID THEY GET IN THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE???

Not only Traditionals. All of them including some Reissues ( if not all of them for that year). If you want to get decent LP do not go above 2006, unless it's R7,8,9 with the exception of 2012

Also, I was thinking, if they commemorate 25th anniversary in 78, that puts the beginning of HOG to 1953. However official information says they opened in 1964. And in this light - did you have a chance to compare the size of this guitar's headstock and any other Gibson made from 84 and up? On '70s LPs it measures 86mm btwn the tips of the mustage, on modern - '1984 and up - it is 78mm . Also the tuners are grovers and in the 70s they put Gibsons with large diameter ferrules and no nut ( I understand that they could specifically order Grovers, but I doubt that). Now if the headstock is small, then everything makes sence - it's from 88-89 with grovers ( according to info 64+25=89...88 in some cases ), cavities look identical to the ones from 80s ( see pics), and with no metal surroundings ( I do not imagine someone going into the trouble taking all of them out, from the switch cavity in particular - it literally is pain in the ass), the hole for wires is rectangular, just like on the 80s. You can see that the shape of the cavities on 70s is quite different with round hole for wires. If the headstock turns out to be large, then I am no help without touching it, because sometimes you look at them and they look real, but when you touch them, you feel silicone , if you know what I mean . And on top of that the info on wiki about them opening the store in 64 will be incorrect. And I'm suspecting the headstock repair. I wish was wrong, but those lines usually left from bending the top layer + full back re-paint to cover it and make the color consistent all the way with the back of the body

I might have an explanation why the back was re-painted, and it might be a bit disappointing. Just look at the pic and tell me if you think what I think

Spent couple of hours trying to find any info on that GC run of 50. I do not have any info on them in several books that I have. So if you have any links I'd be happy to learn more. And being a big fan of 70s LP ( of which I still have a lot), I'm gonna be on a quest to find one. Funny thing happened while I was going thru the google pages. Somewhere in teen pages it showed the link - Gibson Les Paul Custom 25 Anniversary ! Yes! Finally ! I got it! The link lead me to ebay auction that closed about 4 years ago. I clicked on that link...and what do I see - it's a link to an auction for 25/50 that I won. Funny!

Strange guitar. Gibson never had any 25th anniv. models ( the only known with number 25 was 25/50). Did you blacklight it? Hard to believe that it is original color ( if it is, it's probably modern, or refin, more pics would help, I might be wrong here). The headstock looks small, although I couldn't tell for sure from the pic, but looks modern ( or original , if you will) ('50s or '82 and up), which differ from '70s headstock, that is quite big and you can't miss it. They ( Standards) never came with ebony fb with the exception of Pro model, but Pro was Deluxe and came with soapbars ( would be nice to look inside the PU cavities). Also the neck wood shows mahogany 1pc, and in the 70s they all were maple 3pc ( with the exception of early 70s). If it was before 77, then it would have a sandwich body, and you'd definitely see it, as the paint tends to show the seams over the years. Binding does not look 70s ( again specific photos would help). Tuners on the 70s are very specific and quite different, mostly w/o nut and with big diameter 2 level bushings. Also there was no special runs for any GC or SamAsh in the 70s, as far as I know. Guys in Gibson support are a joke. They will help in some definite cases with serial number, if that serial falls into their database ( if the Standard from 77 and up does not have Made in USA stamp, they will tell you that most likely it's fake, which makes me laugh). No help with guitars from 68-76. I'd look at headstock and compare it against any modern. Looks like it's the same size. And if it is, this guitar is from anywhere between 83 and up. Pics of the control cavities would help, do they have metal inserts in them? Under the metal insert in the control cavity there usually are stamps of all kind, showing the date, the color etc. It definitely could be one off, ordered for someone who turned 25, but if it happened in the 70s, I'm pretty sure, it would have big headstock, maple neck and all other attributes of the 70s ( on the other hand, as far as I know, Gibson does not take any orders from private parties, may be they do now, but I'm pretty sure they didn't back then, again, you never know - may be some worker turned 25, or celebrated his 25th year of working for them) It would be interesting to see more pics of it, of course if you are interested in further investigation

Looks like you are right again sir, really tough to tell but I found a pretty good shot around the 1:09:20 mark that seems to clearly show dark metallic flake finish - looks a lot like black cherry to me... About seven years ago I bought this dark metallic flake cali with maple fb. But there was this guy who was begging me to sell it to him. So I did. Out of 20 Calis I had, I had to sell the only one with maple board....what an idiot ! 2 years later I saw that video and till this day I can't forgive myself for selling it. Could be the one, who knows?

I wouldn't call "lowballer" a person, who offered you more than a market value (and a market value at hand turned out to be 1025), the comfort of practical cash and a personal pickup. Do not get me wrong, I have absolutely no hard feelings at all. I picked up two great Calis from Mark and Roger here ( thanks guys) in the last month. Might've gotten another one ( not a cali , but still), but should let the things to cool down a bit, cause my lady was about to boil my nuts. And, ouch, can't believe I missed that red maple one in Germany , something happened and bid didn't go thru and it ended at $1100...bummer...so much for rising prices. But as I always say - If something came up on ebay, it'll come up again and even cheaper, just have to be patient.

Those rotary switches are very annoying ( to me personally - piece of crap). The top is insanely sick. that's not cheating, that's total adultery! and it's worth it. As they say - if you bang somebody, make sure she is a Queen, if you steal something - make sure it's worth a million.

Great price, but somehow I feel for the guy. Imagine how desperate you are gonna need that cash to end it like that. it's at least $800 guitar, well, sometimes life sucks. May be we should chip in and help the brother out? On the other hand , who knows what kind of sh...t he stepped in His respond to me: " Hey bro, everything is gone, almost, Sam Ash scored most of it, but those idiots didn't have enough cash. I'll see how it goes, got 4 guitars left out of 12 I had, may be those will go too, damn!" Oh, boy...

And since Hamer will not built any of those, I've ordered one with the same specs at almost 1/3 of the price of that one ( a little more). Will see how it's gonna come out. Might take a while though.
