  1. I haven't seen them in any shops, just a couple on ebay. A Walnut Goose dreadnaught was going for $1200 US, which I thought was a screaming deal. For the purposes of this thread, I think the likelihood of coming across a Boucher OM for sale in the US to be very small. I hope the world is treating you well! Yep, the world is treating me very well indeed. A Walnut Goose for $1200 wow! If I ever get another Boucher, forget my local shop, I'll check out E-Bay first.
  2. Are you describing a guitar that you have, or the ideal type that you'd want? Anyway, sounds like a cool guitar!
  3. Not easy to find here at all, but when they do come up you can usually get a great deal. Great guitars. -Jonathan Hi Jonathan, How are you doing? I was curious what Bouchers go for in the States? Have you seen them in any shops? Thanks!
  4. Hi, I'm not sure if they are easy to find in the States. But anyway, there is a great company out of Quebec, called Boucher. http://www.guitareboucher.com/index.php?lang=en I have a Boucher dreadnought, with adirondack spruce top, and sapele back and sides. I love it! The sound is amazing, and it's only getting better and better. The price was $2300 Canadian. They make different sizes and shapes as well. I discovered Boucher when doing some research, turns out they supply a lot of Adirondack Spruce to Martin for their tops. Speaking of Martin, the only guitar vaguely in the price range that could match the sweet sound fo the Boucher was a Martin HD28, but it was about $700 more. The Bouchers are basically built like old Martins, with the scalloped x-bracing. Actually, if you can find it in the States, I think it would be a good deal, because they're better known in Quebec and France so they are "under the radar". I know a lot of guys here speak highly of the Breedloves, and also the new Guilds I believe are built by some of the guys working on Hamers. Shop around and find something that really speaks to you, for $3000 you can get a beautiful guitar. Personally, I still feel you get a better "bang for your buck" buying used. But, I kind of violated my own rule and bought my acoustic new, it's my only new guitar. I found the acoustic guitar forum had some good advice, but like any guitar forum, there's some snobisnesh going on. http://www.acousticguitarforum.com/forums/index.php You should also check out Martins for sure, they are super nice, but a little pricey. I wasn't too impressed with the new Gibson acoustics I tried, especially for the price, but, maybe I didn't try enough. Edited to add: I'll try to post a pic of my Boucher http://s649.photobucket.com/albums/uu217/s...cherBinding.jpg
  5. Had what I thought was a great gig the other week, playing opening for two cool bands. Crowd was sparse when we started, started to get packed by the end. Bass player leaves in a huff (he had to make it to his night-job) saying, "man we sucked out there". Long story short, he quit/was asked to leave the band. Now I'm looking for a bass player!
  6. Awesome, congrats!
  7. Is that a '59 Greg? The magical year!
  8. Sent you an email, want to buy this beauty email me at: thesonicdefender@hotmail.com or phone at: 613-324-5471
  9. Curious as to how you are amplifying your sound for the acoustic gigs? What kind of guitar pickup and are you using an amp, or throught the PA? What do you think of the Braggs Direct/Para-eq? Thanks!
  10. I almost forgot, so silly of me, I'm playing next week, Thursday, with two cool bands. shoud be fun. Indie-rock Thursday!
  11. Cool! That's a lot of gigs! Way to go
  12. Wow! Nice guitar, welcome aboard.
  13. Yes, that's what I remember as well. I sold my last flametop four digit in the middle #0100s three years ago before the economy tanked and it was a good one but I didn't get that much for it. That's ok, it's in a good loving home now! Then again, economy or not, I wouldn't part with either of the ones I have left (both sub-#0100) for a couple times that price! How does four digit Standard compare tonesise to an older Sunburst, like a 78? I've never tried any standards. I'm not crazy about the visual look of them, more into SC or Sunbursts. But, I'm thinking I might be missing something, people seem to rave about the Standards!
  14. Wow! This is not good. Won't be the same without him. I wonder if he'll still be involved in the guitar industry in some way. Maybe he'll concentrate on cars. Is this the end of Hamer?
  15. Hamer is moving towards doing custom work only. Apparently, they will not be making normal "production" guitars. That's what people are saying, but I haven't seen anything official on the Hamer website. Does anyone know when they all these changes are supposed to happen?
  16. Another vote for Mike Mills. One of the best!
  17. ...and I can say that I am BLOWN AWAY. Killer neck, killer fretwork and the carved out aluminum body WORKS. The Duncans are perfect in this guitar. As a wood snob, I expected it to be brash and brittle sounding. I was a James Trussart dealer for a while, and dismissed these guitars as the same thing. Boy, was I wrong. It's resonant as hell and a wonderful sounding and feeling guitar. Are we going to have to start talking tonemetals? The surface is smooth as glass with the texture milled into it and then a clearcoat(the same stuff Mercedes uses on their alloy wheels!) is applied. In the stage lights, it looks like it's alive. More details soon. Wow, looks great. So Greg, do you think metal guitars will be accepted by guitar buyers?
  18. I hunted down my amp: Ampeg Reverberocket re-issue. All tubes, two channels. For me, it feels like home. I used to have one back in the day, sold it, and now back to using it. It feels and sounds like me. I can see using some digital effects here and there, but the basis of my sound will always be tubes. I agree with McChris's comments above, guys doing originals will probably tend towards tubes.
  19. I'll contend that a lot of it boils down to a jealousy thing ("why are THEY making all that cash when my band/this other band is just as good if not better?") and a disdain for their fan base ("only a douchebag would be really into Nickelback."). I'll plead guilty on both counts. Chad Kroeger also has a habit of coming off as extremely creepy when he's trying to be sexy (for example, the lyrics to "Animals," "Figured You Out" and "Something In Your Mouth"). I will say that I enjoy the song "Someday" and Kroeger has by far the coolest crib I've ever seen on "Cribs." I'll admit to some jealousy. Who wouldn't want to be playing stadiums?
  20. I can hardly stand to get through one Nickleback song, can't even imagine listening to a full album. The funny thing about them, is they sell so many records, but I don't think ever met anyone who listens to them. They are very "generic" sounding. I think this might appeal to people that don't really pay that much attention to music, they don't really notice how mediocre they are. Also, sadly, they are Canadian, but please don't take them as an example of our musical talents, there are plenty way better bands up here! ha ha
  21. I don't know, I wouldn't buy it, but it's kinda catchy. The guy just going, "yeooooohhh" is kinda funny.
  22. Hamer's are still under the radar for people who haven't tried them. I don't know why they don't have a better reputation with the general guitar buying public. Like McChris said, maybe it's the bad marketing that's to blame. The upshot is that, if you buy used, a Hamer is a great deal. On the flipside, the lack of "brand name" recongnition sure sucks if you want to sell a Hamer that you bought brand new.
  23. Me too! A couple have showed up on E-Bay, but nobody wants to ship to Canada. I found one at a music store in Windsor, a Canadian city about 5 hours from me. I'd still have to pay shipping, but at least there wouldn't be any duty or anything. The price is higher than what stuff is going for on E-bay, but once you add in shipping and duties and stuff......hmm might end up being about the same. Argg..decisions decisions. I have enough cash to buy it now, but eventually I'd have to get rid of my present amp. Sometimes I think I'm crazy, flipping through amps like this. I find them harder to evaluate than guitars. It's hard to know really how they will sound in a band setting when you try them in a store. Ok, I'll stop rambling now. Really just trying to convince myself it's ok to spend more money on gear!
  24. Yeah, I hear good things about them, but they're just not what I'm looking for. The overdrive channel on the reissue is really cool.
