  1. I recently read a post (on the LP Forum?) that Dean and Snake Oil was reliably producing and shipping his strings again. Thought it was time to give it a shot and see for myself what all the excitement was about. Sure enough, I ordered six sets of the Vintage Nickel L's via his website last Friday, January 29th, and I received them TODAY -- within a week. If you've been wanting to try these strings, looks like the iron is hot.
  2. BEST grab-n-go amp EVER! My '67 sounds like God on steroids -- 22 watts of blackface goodness. Someone needs this amp.
  3. The first guitars he built -- in 1975 -- were late-'50s Les Paul Special knock offs, just like the Hamer Special/Sunbursts...
  4. I didn't know that. Still, to me, a Guild isn't a "real" Guild unless it was made in Westerly, RI. That's kinda like saying it's not a "real" Gibson unless it was made in Kalamazoo, or a "real" Fender unless it was made in Fullerton, or a "real" Hamer unless it was made in Arlington Heights...or Wilmette.
  5. Well -- maybe Jol and crew will be given the opportunity to buy Hamer back from Fender. THAT might be the best possible outcome...
  6. Any one of three different '58 or '59 bursts on the wall at Southworth Guitars in DC back in 1982 or so. He was asking $12k each back then.
  7. Sure you do, ya, ok... Ha ha. Yeah -- I guess I hope that if I SAY it often enough, I'll REALLY think it's true!
  8. Yeah -- I hear ya. $460 is a steal. But I've got ENOUGH guitars right now...
  9. Hey -- $460 if you do buy it now and Microsoft cashback!
  10. This happened to me for the first time in a LONG time at a gig we played a month ago. I just put together a new pedal board, which I unveiled at the gig. As soon as I plugged in, fired everything up, and turned up the volume on my guitar, I began broadcasting some AM station out of my amp. The rest of the guys in the band were looking around, like Where is THAT coming from?!? I was like, WTF?!?
  11. $20 at the door from what I understand. Unlimited one-on-one boutique amp excitement all day long. Better deal than Disneyland in my book!
  12. I think I'll make the trek up north this time... http://www.ampshow.com
  13. What kinda pickups did you put in that bad boy, Murkat?
  14. Damn -- wish I bought the pair that were offered here about six months ago for a VERY friendly HFC bro price. Was it less than $300 for the pair?
  15. Depends on the amp. Marshall Jubilee -- straight into the amp, no pedals. Matchless Lightning 15 -- into my Analogman Beano Boost, then into the amp. Fender blackface Champ and Princeton Reverb -- into my TS-808 Tubescreamer, then into the amp. I don't do any other pedals except for the occasional wah.
  16. That is one COOL guitar! I see fireworks, baby!
  17. Definitely not as good as her debut. She'll be hard to beat regardless now that THE MACHINE is behind her...
  18. Okay. I'll bite. Here's a band from Dublin with some dude playing a Hamer Standard clone...
  19. Probably starting at about US$15k for a "fully reliced" item. There was a '56 Tele in pretty good original condition on the Gear Page emporium for quite a while priced at US$12k. Don't know if he ever did sell it. A LOT of GREAT guitars coming out of the woodwork, and the prices are often remarkably low (if you can call a guitar priced at US$12k low-priced).
  20. Just spotted this "cheap" '53 Tele in the local Craigslist -- no affiliation... http://sandiego.craigslist.org/nsd/msg/1149492421.html
  21. About US$1700 is a pretty damn good price for a '65 Casino. Major bummer about the one pickup though. If it was more of a beater, I'd screw on two more dogears to make it a thinline Switchmaster... LOVE my '67 ES-330...
  22. Someone probably just got LAY-Z...
