JGale Posted July 28, 2025 Posted July 28, 2025 Anyone know how to find the import tariff for electric guitar amplifiers from Canada? I am confused. It's either Duty Free or 25% from what I google. TIA, JG Quote

0 Cboss Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 Isn't Canada part of nafta? North American free trade something? I don't follow politics at all but I do remember this, and Canada and the US are both in North America Quote
0 crunchee Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 (edited) If you hafta ask, you can't afford it. I'm just kidding, of course...I've recently heard from some friends who ordered some Chinese-made toys/figurines from Amazon, that was actually shipped directly from China to them (the buyer), and it went through Customs with no problems, and no tariff charge that they know of. The total cost of these items was less than US $100 though. I dunno if the declared value or type of item would make the amp more prone to a tariff stop/hold or not, AFAIK the whole situation is kind of a crap shoot at the moment. 0 JGale Posted July 30, 2025 Author Posted July 30, 2025 I guess we'll find out. It's much more than a C-note. Quote
0 bry4321 Posted July 30, 2025 Posted July 30, 2025 I believe there is no charge if the amp is compliant with U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement rules. And it is 25% if it is not compliant with USMCA, because of "emergency" tariffs imposed by the current administration. However, the courts may rule that the 25% tariff is illegal, in which case the government should have to refund you. Best guess. Don't make any decisions based on this. Sounds like you have already pulled the trigger. Quote
