Wraptail Studio bridge post bushings- standard or metric?

Question

Posted

Looking at replacing the hardware on a wraptail studio custom from 1995.  If I'm buying a replacement bridge and posts, do I need metric or standard threads to match the existing bushings? Is the post spacing 3.25" center to center?  Thanks in advance.

Chatted with the good folks at Music City Bridge, they said with the original bridge being Wilkinson that they would be metric.  Looking at their Savvy compensated wraptail in nickel with their locking studs, which I'm told will be drop-in compatible with the existing threaded bushings.  I'll update the thread with what the verdict is in case anyone searches this in the future.

@butcher this guitar is killer, and crazy clean for being 30 yrs old this year.

The original Wilkinsons from the 90s should be standard.  After the Gotoh acquisition, they converted most of the new product to metric.

Compare a VSV-G trem from the mid-90s to the more recent product and they're different.

Thanks Chris, the plot thickens, then.  Sounds like the the thing to do is tell MCB I need to order both and return one.

Edited to add: this is the original bridge that will get replaced.  I like the patina on it, but the grooves worn in by the strings are a little rough and zingy.  Already swapped the black rings, need a long-bat switch tip in amber or creme now.

That looks great with the new pickup rings! I am sure this has already crossed your mind, but could you remove one of the bolts and take it to your hardware store to see if they are metric or standard?

I thought of that, it would involve rendering it unplayable for as much as an hour, which I haven't worked up to yet. 😉

That’s a true beaut!  I wish Hamer had used white or cream “long bat” switches back then, but they’ve always been tough to track down (which is probably why Hamer used the black ones!).  Great look…

One would think that, with such high demand, some enterprising young man would get one of those new 3D printers and be cranking out those things and selling them to us connoisseurs for foolish amounts of denaro.
