fucked up fuzz

The reissue Fuzz Face is the way to go. It is so noisy in addition to the fuzz that it is irritating to use. Instead of the fuzz, you are distracted by the hiss. Now that's fucked up. :o

the tweak fuzz clip on the seymour duncan site makes it sound real tame. blues saraceno nuff said. the big muff is too linear and predictable. the fuzz factory on the other hand, jusdging by the clips on the zvex side is quite nutty. lookin for weirdness here.

Is there a recording you can reference?

The fuzz on the early Alice Cooper albums came from a Jordan Boss Tone.

Hendrix used the Fuzz Face.

Boss, Fulltone, Keeley, and other stomp box manufacturers have sound sample available. It is not unheard of to use a combination of pedals. An overdrive into a distortion can work.

A Danelectro Grilled Cheese has a really cool fuzz that is only useful for people wanting an obnoxious fuzz tone. They are cheap and known for the case cracking if you step too hard on it.

Here's a cost-effective option if you are handy with a soldering iron.

I built BYOC's script logo Phase 90 kit this past weekend. Easy to follow instructions, took me a few hours and it sounds INCREDIBLE.

Depending on how pereverse your tase may be, the ZVEX FUZZ FACTORY can either be the most useless and annoying fuzz noise you've ever heard OR the most amazing, cut through the BS, exquisite FUZZ (not distortion or OD) you've ever squeezed our of your guitar. I thought it sounded like a swarm of bees at first, but when tweaked and plunked in a mix/ensemble, it's like - wow, what was that? do it again!

you can make fun of it all you want until you realize you've had it stomped for half the set. really weird... :o

+1 on Fuzz Factory. i LOVE over-the-top fuzz tones and FF is one of the best. you might try a PE Experience -- the SWELL mode is chaotic.

check out the new Digietech pedals, well made and reasonable, I think they have a fuzz w/ multiple tones built in, ZVex is great but screw an expensive fuzz ( for me anyway )

Weirdest fuzz I have ever heard is the Effector 13 Soda Meiser. In the "chaos" mode it's basically an AM radio drowning in a sea of boiling lemonade. On Mars. Total Radiohead/Flaming Lips/Sonic Youth bizarrity.

tanks for the suggestions.

hhb - i hear ya, i hate expensive pedals too.

polara - never heard of effector 13 before. the clip on their site is great, especially the ending. sounds like your gear took a crap. this is what im lookin for, thanks!

I've also gotten a lot of mileage out of an old mxr dist+ with the battery on its very last leg --- death throes.
