FunkyE9th Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 I'm thinking of making postcard size flyers with dates listed for our upcoming gigs. What I'd like to do put these on tables during gigs, so that people can see where we're playing next.Do you think it will piss off bar owners if the flyers promote gigs at other bars?-FunkyE9th
Chollie Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 It could very easily piss the bar owner off, coz in a way it would take business else where. If you have a band website or even a myspace site. I would just make a flyer/postcard and be like "Check Us Out on (insert site) for more info and gig dates"
lonote049 Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 My bands have been doing that for 10+ years and in that time, we've had a total of 1 complaint from a bar manager...and he's a moron.

We don't promote our gigs at other clubs. Instead, we direct people to our website. How about a card telling people to check out your website for your full schedule and to see photos of themselves?
MCChris Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 We had business cards printed up that directs people to our website. That seems to be working well.
serial Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 We have business cards (full color) with the next five or six dates on the back. Since we usually get repeat bookings and the clubs are usually mentioned for a future date on the back, I can't imagine they'd get too pissed. We always do the club the courtesy of at least asking the bartender if it's ok if there is no management around. They seem to appreciate it, but always say "no problem". Obviously for the first time we're playing somewhere we aren't giving the club any promos, but every new place we've played has asked us back.
mattb Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 Business cards and flyers for upcoming gigs is what we do. We are also in the process of getting a few hundred of the mini cd's pressed with a few songs on each to hand out at bars. We've never had complaints about the flyers. Stickers, buttons, anything you can give to people to get them coming back is a good idea. We try to toss out T-shirts here and there to the ladies. Also, having a banner made with your band name and Website on it is a good idea. Hang it up when you play and people will have to look at it all night and will remember the URL to your site.-MattB

You can do a great job for them, fill their house, and still they might decide kareoke is a better option. That said, I would have the schedule handy and announce that you have them, so you can give them out between sets. I'd do that instead of distributing them to tables. Better yet, get peoples' email addresses and send them your schedule directly.
Eric Weston Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 My bands have been doing that for 10+ years and in that time, we've had a total of 1 complaint from a bar manager...and he's a moron. +1...hehehe....Every table, every time(when we've got them) ....no complaints though, ever.
FunkyE9th Posted July 17, 2006 Author Posted July 17, 2006 I think I'll try the flyer or business card with web info and a messgae encouraging them to sign up for our email list online. Thanks everyone,-Ferdie
lonote049 Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 We also have a sheet for people to sign up to receive a monthly update via e-mail and the schedules we hand out at the gigs also direct people to our website. The monthly e-mail updates probably work better than anything else.
tafkathundernotes Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Better yet, get peoples' email addresses and send them your schedule directly. We did that! We get about a 30% readability rate Maybe we'll ask them to sign up before they start drinking!
