wyldbil Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 I know a lefthanded youngster who is looking for an inexpensive lefty electric to start on. Any suggestions?------------amended to add-----------------------------Hey Elduave, are there Daisy Rock lefties? The young lady just informed me she likes those and wants a pink guitar. Anyone wanting a pink guitar gets my help!
Jason01 Posted July 17, 2006 Posted July 17, 2006 drum cityThis was the first place I thought of when you said lefty daisy rock. I have absolutely no idea how one of those would play, I'd never hear the end of it if I was caught playing one of those.
Steve Haynie Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 If she is not already learning to play, try starting her off with a right handed guitar. Left handed people hate hearing that, but they will have more options when trying/buying gear in the future. Lefties who play right handed include Steve Morse, and Joe Perry.

HAMERMAN Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 Hand her a tennis racquet and ask her to play some air guitar.* If she "plays" it right handed than go for it. If not then maybe she is one of the unlucky ones (like me) where right handed just plain doesn't work.* I know it sounds kind of stupid. :-)
atquinn Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 I 2nd the advice to start her out on a righthanded guitar. My brother's a lefty you plays righty and he has no problem outdoing me on guitar If you decide not to go that route, maybe they make the Hello Kitty strat lefthanded? -Austin
Mr Fuzzy Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 You can find a whole bunch of inexpensive lefty guitars here, in a bunch of styles. Rondo Music Lefty Guitars They have a pink righty Strat style. Pink Strat style for $99 If she goes lefty she can flip it Hendrix style.
polara Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 I used to play with a lefty who played right-handed and he said he thought it was a big benefit, as his fretting hand was super-accurate for learning those first shords and later for soloing. It does sort of make sense, as even fingerpicking your left hand is having to do more complex stuff than your right...

He felt that the fretting hand required more dexterity. That boy can play!
Jimbilly Posted July 18, 2006 Posted July 18, 2006 A good friend and true guitar expert told me his opinion is: there is Right handed and Wrong handed, and I agree. Show me a left handed piano and I might change my mind.
