Just wondering what do you guys prefer when it comes to payments for deals? Paypal says it takes 3 to 4 days for the money to get in your bank account. Wouldn't it be faster to mail a MO? Whatr about western union that would be really fast wopuldn't it?

eBay warning on wire transfers

Direct quote from eBay that you can read for yourself by clicking the link above:

Sellers may not ask or require you to pay via instant cash wire transfer services such as Western Union or MoneyGram. They may not ask you to pay via cash. These payment methods are not permitted on eBay. Please refer to the Accepted Payments policy for details on permitted and non-permitted payment methods. Payment services that are not permitted on eBay may, in fact, be outstanding services for consumers in other contexts. eBay’s evaluation relates only to whether a particular service is appropriate for the eBay Marketplace. If a seller asks you to pay with a payment method that is not permitted on eBay, report the seller

Several scamming methods described & how to avoid them

other links & comments from the Western Union site, ebay, and Moneygram.

Don't use us for auction payment

Dont use any instant xfer

Don't use Moneygram either

Personally, I use & require only one method, USPS Money Order sent via a service that offers package tracking with signature required. If the buyer or seller won't do that buh-bye.

Paypal website says it will take 3 - 4 business days is this correct?

It only costs $5 to send a paypal e check which is deducted from the payors checking account. Takes a few days to clear but then it's yours! Unless there is a problem of course

Still get confused with payee/payor deal!

As a buyer, I prefer PayPal, because it gives me 2 layers of protection (my credit card company and, in theory, PayPal).

As a seller, I prefer MO because there are no fees for me to absorb and once I have the MO, there's nothing they can do to get their money back ! (where-as with PayPal there are all sorts of games you can play). In actuality, I've never had problems with either method.

if you have a problem with a seller on paypal, you jump through hoops to prove youre in the right and at that lucky if you get your funds in full returned...no matter what credit card or extra insurance you add.

I just went through this on some roe deer antlers from a uk seller...

these paypal rep. idiots that cant even begin to converse in english on the phone , muchless get the picture in an email did nothing but hinder the process...

after a months worth of back and forth emails..I finally had to ask for

a person versed in english to solve a rather simple verbage listing flaw that ended up getting me my refund as time was running out....

theres alot to be said for NOT hiring simply to have warm bodies as customer service reps.

Ebay doesn't allow Western Union money orders or wire transfers for one reason - ebay owns PayPal and they want to force you to use that service as much as possible.

Western Union payments are actually safer for sellers because you can get paid in cash at a WU location. No danger of reversed charges or other PayPal shenanigans.

I've not used MoneyGram, but they appear to be growing rapidly.

The problem with a Paypal credit card payment is the open ended transaction you are subject to from the buyer. He can cancel and refute the charge and you have the burden of proof placed on you to prove good faith on your side.

At least with a Paypal Echeck you can wait til the check clears Paypal and your account before you ship the goods.

I prefer USPS money orders because they are cash and don't cost the buyer or you a fee.

never had a paypal account never will. I accept credit cards with my business or usps money orders, international money orders, wire transfers into an account I have set up for that purpose only and western union or moneygram.

ebay wants you to use pay pal only because they own them and get yet another cut of your money from using their services
