How many of you have downsized your amps?

think there needs to be a GOM/HFC night booked out far enough that Paul and I (maybe CraigS too?) can make the road trip. I think that would be a blast!

I could be up for that...

Nowadays, my T60 direct into the PA gives me what I need.

Forgive the stupid question. My little TM10 has an XLR out. That right into the PA is easy.

The TM60 only has a 1/4 line out correct? I'm assuming a direct box is involved in the signal chain in order to inject into the board. :)

My buddy has been borrowing my TM10 for Sunday mornings. He is considering a TM60 for church, mostly for the 2 channel capability not the output. But I am concerned about the line out.

Can you/anyone straighten me out on this?

My favorite amps have all been in the 15 - 35 watt range. Most of these amps have been about the same volume, but they vary in character.

Matchless HC30 30 watt

and

Blockhead Firstborn 18 watt

It's still tubes and a non master volume for me.

I went from a JCM800 2203 1/2 stack to a Tech 21 T60 and then slightly up to my Duoverb 1/2 stack and recently picked up a Rocktron Replitone combo. Because I don't have an original thought and have been taking a lot of ribbing on this forum and in person for being a solid state guy, I'm convinced that I need to go back to a Marshall 1/2 stack, if only for "the look". :)

Wait a minute! There was a "pile on Serial" notice went out? Why didn't I get a copy? Hmmm?

Take this, you!

A good Junior thru a good Marshall is like getting chocolate sauce removed from your body in the best possible way by the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.....

I've got both and right now those have been my #1 drug of choice.

The TM10 is a toy.

The TM60 has a speaker compensated XLR out(remeber, this is the Sansamp company!), so the direct tone is GODLIKE. You can turn off the speaker by sticking a cable into the headphone jack, now you run silent for recording.

BUT DON'T TRUST ME!!!!!!! I've only been crowing about these for years.

GREAT minds do think alike.

I have a 20w non-Master 1x12 Top Hat Club Deluxe. I wish I'd brought it to Peso's for you to check out. Its color and trim is vey like the Blockhead. Also has tube rectifier. When you get the vol. up to 6 or above, it just sings and howls in the sweetest, creamiest way. I think it would work well in venues up to 300 people.

I moved the speakers from my Jackson 4x12 chipboard monstrosity into a more compact Fender Tone Master formerly owned my Morningstar and AdmiralB. Probably gained (or lost, in this case) about 5 lbs.

Does that count? LOL

That's not unlike putting an aluminum tailpiece on a '70s LP Custom to save half an ounce : )

You may see the TM10 as a toy, it has it's uses.

I didn't realize that the TM60 has an XLR out too...I've not seen one in the flesh, and the website alludes to a 1/4" line out only... I guess it was a stupid question after all.

Thanks for clarifying the outputs on this amp for me.

My "toy" comment is in reference to how the amp is used. You cannot switch on the fly, it is not footswitchable. The internal speaker is good only to a level only slightly louder than you can yell. It was never designed for live use. It is great for recording or practice, so it is not in the same utility area as a TM60. Hence, it is a toy. Toy ain't bad, Dion.

Thanks. Just two weeks ago I bought a TM10 used but in as new condition. I paid about $250 for it and it is worth it. Now you americans may think I paid too much but new it is available here for about $650. (That's right, six hundred and fifty dollars).

I am very happy because it really has some signature sounds and it seems to capture these better than my Line 6 Ax2. I like the Marshall and Mesa voices more than the Fender-like ones. Furthermore the headphones out is very usable and loud enough. Much much better than the Behringer V-amp 2 and than the MicroCube headphones out. I have to agree with BCR Greg that an amp like this is not usable for live gigs. I am curious to find out how the TM60 sounds and how it is possible to dial in different sounds, i.e. how easy that is.

To answer the question I have downsized from a 100 W Marshall and later a 2 x 50W Ax2 to a Music Man RD65 and later a 7W Songworks Little Lanilei and now the 10W (solid state) Tech21 TM10. I also still use my FabAmp 2 x 3 Watt tube amp (with Fab Amp SSVT and Powerwave preamp).

This is a good thread. For practice purposes and for use at home you need a low wattage amp that can be openend up without causing ear-shattering volume. However, even my 2 x 3 Watt Franklin Series FabAmp is much too loud for use with my spouse and children in the room.

Ahhh. No biggie. I shoulda 'smiley-ed' that response some, hey?

The limitations of my TM10 are exactly why my bro' is loooking at the TM60 for himself.

One day when I can actually play enuff guitar to warrant getting one. I will too. Or maybe I won't wait 10 years.
