santellavision Posted December 31, 2006 Posted December 31, 2006 SOLD!!! I'm going to regret this... But I have to sell #30 of 30 '06 Redwood Studio Custom Limited Edition. Citrus Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 Beautiful guitarHow would you compare the redwood to maple tonewise???
santellavision Posted January 2, 2007 Author Posted January 2, 2007 Beautiful guitarHow would you compare the redwood to maple tonewise???I had first read before buying it that Redwood was 'brighter' than maple, but that's not the case at all. It's very similar. I've owned 2 dozen maple-topped LP's Hamers, PRS's over the years and this one sounds as good or better than any of the ones I've owned. It does have one thing that amazes me, it oozes pickside harmonics ('ala Billy Gibbons). You can get them so easily. I've never played a guitar that does this so well.
BCR Greg Posted January 2, 2007 Posted January 2, 2007 In my experience, the Redwood loses a little "sizzle" but gains a little "pop". Where the maple has a very distinct high end and is very clear, the Redwood is smoother, and the notes seem to jump off the guitar more.Describing sunsets is easier. LOLI think the Redwood is more organic and vocal sounding. Similar to spruce but clearer.

belgian Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 IMHO the most beautiful Hamer available. Great SLU pickups also !!!!!!
santellavision Posted January 3, 2007 Author Posted January 3, 2007 Price drop to $2950 shipped. Didn't you guys get some cash from Santa?
edgar_allan_poe Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 Redwood isn't used very often in the electric guitar realm, but it is used more often in acoustics. Acoustic players describe the tone as Cedar on steroids. Having played a few Redwood topped acoustics I would absolutely agree with this assessment.
Guest Meshuggah Posted January 3, 2007 Posted January 3, 2007 I changed the strings on my Phoenix (Redwood top, Zircote B&S) from lightly coated Elixrs, my teacher couldn't hear me in the big room we meet in, I quit taking the Phoenix, and put on Alchemy from Dean Markley (thanks lil buddy) and discovered that, in at least my case, and in the case of an acoustic, a really nice acoustic, a freakin' really nice acoustic, it takes a light touch to bring out the best, but fukk me, it was just beautiful. Great balance, even greater tone, complex, pick sensitive, I'm in heaven, I'm in heaven, and my heart beats so that I can hardly speak. And I seem to find the happiness I seek...tra la la.

Another Redwood lover here. Have a dreadnought with Cocobolo b/s and flamed Redwood top. Agree 100% with your description of the qualities of this wood. Beautiful to look at and a freakin' eargasm to play...
