Monaco III with a blended heel

I'm considering ordering a Monaco III with a blended/sculpted heel. I love that feel of the scultped neck joint on the Mirage I and I'm looking to get rid of the dreaded "shelf". {{{Author's note: no need to rehash "Why is the shelf an issue?" Boys....that horse is dead and will not be running in this race. We respectfully request that you please stop beating it....the dead horse that is. ;-) Thank you! }}}

If anyone out there has a Monaco with this kind of neck heel would you mind posting a jpeg or 2 of that heel? I'd like to get a look at the result.

Thanks.

It would depend on how much wood is in the neck joint area. Just how much of the Monaco is hollow? Does it have a center section like the Newport? I have only seen the LP style Monaco.

Don't know if its do-able or not. What I do know is that I asked an Authorized Hamer Dealer for a custom order quote with this feature and several others. I received a total price and no exceptions to any of the custom features I requested.

If you have a Monaco with a sculpted heel please post jpegs of the heel. Thanks folks.

I saw that one in the new Hamer Custom Gallery. That's very close to what I'd like to see, but on a Monaco III and with the "shelf" removed.

with the "shelf" removed.

That ain't gonna happen...well, not until a group of dealers convinces Hamer to make a limited run with the 'old style' non-dovetail neck joint (you know, simple construction done right).

I'm not pissed. Really I've got no room at all to bitch since I'm not in the market for much of anything Hamer would make today (at the price they would charge). I'd buy a Watson, but not at $5K. At $3K, yes (MSRP here).

I get the vibe - and I could be totally wrong - that Jol just does whatever Jol feels like doing on any given day and that what he did or said yesterday doesn't mean anything anymore.

I mean, one-piece necks, but no pearl or sparkle finishes?

I don't think Hamer knows what it wants to be, and as such isn't anything for more than a day or two at a time.

I would LOVE to have Hamer build me a couple SS2s. But they'd price out at over $5K.

100% in agreement with you, Admiral!

I will reiterate...

That blended heal makes *no* sense to me. Look at the carve...exactly how will that improve upper fret access? The *shelf* is the problem...*not* the heel. Christ...they even carved out the lower horn...how many times is your hand resting *there*...ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!

Too bad you're both wrong.

That may well be the case, but..how do you know?

I don't. Just kickin' up some dust on a Friday, that's all.

But maybe "Jol doing whatever Jol feels like doing on any given day" is EXACTLY what Hamer wants to be. And he knows that full well. More power to him; it's his company.

As far as "what he did or said yesterday doesn't mean anything anymore," sometimes in business you have to go in a different direction in spite of what you may have said in the past. That's the DOWNSIDE of Hamer being so open with us. They tell us things, the business climate changes, opportunities come up, and they have to do something contrary to what they told us. Other companies don't have to worry about this because they don't grant their customers and fans that kind of access.

If shred suddenly had a resurgence of popularity along the lines of the grunge explosion, you can bet your ass the Calis and Diablos would be rolling out of Hartford en masse. I doubt you'd be bitching, but SOMEONE sure as hell would be labelling Jol a "sell out."

Is that true? My understanding was that it is Kaman's company, and Frank runs it. I though Jol was kind of a consultant.

That's not a beef, it's an honest question.

Well he must have some clout if the approach is "Jol doing whatever Jol feels like doing on any given day" as you say it is.

Ummmm.......guys? With all due respect, may I please have my thread back? I didn't mean to start a slap fight over Jol's "business compass", or why the shelf should not be a problem, or why dealer A got what he wanted but dealer B did not, or why the blended heel makes no sense to someone, or etc, etc, etc.

I simply (& perhaps naively) wanted to know if someone had a Monaco III with a heel job and if so would they please post some jpegs.

Now let us go forward in love and worship of our Hamer Guitars. Amen.

Thanks & please make a generous deposit in the collection plate. ;-)

PS - My goodness, for a Friday afternoon there sure are a lot of crabby boyz out & about. Gentlemen, I don't believe that Al Gore had this kind of unruly behavior in mind when he created the internet for us. Kaint we awwwllll jus geet alowwng?

it really does feel better, you can put the heel of your hand up in the back so to speak, I'm sure the shelf will stay but the cut on Steves DO make a difference. remember I have a Superpro and even the big shelf is not an issue for me

No. You should have known that blended heels are this year's P90 Duotones. You're no better than that meddling Woodpile.
