zorrow Posted May 17, 2007 Posted May 17, 2007 I never thought I would let this one go, but I got used to the chunkier neck of the "normal" Vector and now this one feels really weird in my pretty big hands. In addition, I definitively like fixed bridges -- this Kahler is great, but I don't make any use of it. So, in order to cash some money in for my Vector hunting quest, my Vector KK '84 is for sale. This Vector KK got he same colors than KK Downing's, which make of it a pretty rare bird: flamed maple top, matching headstock, dark red back and neck, black Hamer USA logo and cream pickguard. It hasn't been repaired, has no refinishes and it is 100% original -- excepting two minor and reversible changes which will be mentioned below. Overall it's extremely clean and looks minty. It does have a noticeable buckle rash on the back of the body, as well as a couple of tiny dings from normal use -- which are barely visible. Apart from that, there are no other issues with this guitar, no BS at all, straight neck and in addition it was adjusted by a great luthier -- please visit his site: www.montrealcustomguitars.com. The specs are: 22 frets, set neck, all mahogany with a thin maple top on the body, rosewood fretboard, mother of pearl dot inlays, Hamer original locking tuners, Kahler flatmount tremolo system (tremolo bar included), one humbucker and one single volume control. The OHSC is included. It is in OK condition, with wear due to its age and one latch which doesn't work. However, inside it's completely clean and beautiful. Now the modifs: 1- I replaced the original humbucker by a shielded Bill Lawrence L-500XL from Bill and Becky -- see it here: http://www.billlawrence.com/Pages/Pickup_Window/500.htm. I kept the original humbucker, so it will be included, but if you don't want the L-500XL I can still put the original pup back. 2- I replaced the original Kahler brass saddles by a new steel saddles set. You can see the part here: http://www.kahlerparts.com/Part_Pages/5325.htm. I also replaced the springs by the stiffer ones: http://www.kahlerparts.com/Part_Pages/8413.htm -- I kept the old saddles set assembly, as well as the two original springs, so they can also be included with the guitar if you want them. Now a picture: The price I have in mind is close to 1500. We still can negotiate, but please don't waste your time with ridiculous proposals -- you can see I've put some bucks into this axe, and you bet it is still a very special one to me. Well, PM with your proposals. I can also send you more pictures upon request.
kurtsstuff Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 I'm sure some bozo will offer you $800 for it! Smooth.....think it'll work???? lol!!
zorrow Posted May 18, 2007 Author Posted May 18, 2007 I'm sure some bozo will offer you $800 for it! Smooth.....think it'll work???? lol!! According to Cmatthes' prophecy, someone did, yes! ...but the guitar is still here.
serial Posted May 18, 2007 Posted May 18, 2007 That is a great guitar-weighs NOTHING. I really liked that one and hated to let it go.
peedenmark7 Posted May 19, 2007 Posted May 19, 2007 all you need is the body binding... I had one back around '96...sold it for dirt cheap have seen a few identical to KK's locally ,save the smaller headstock logo musician ego's ... ha ha ha... but ...that was years ago and one can only imagine the poor shape they might be in today... awesome guitar for sure !
zorrow Posted June 6, 2007 Author Posted June 6, 2007 I'm willing to flex a bit on the price I'm asking for my Vector KK. I'll be PM'ing all the guys who have shown some interest already. I'll do this in the order I've received their messages. Of course, if you are not yet in my list but do want my Vector KK, please don't be shy, PM me and just wait for your turn. Thanks! NOTE: If in a couple of weeks no HFC'er grabs it, I'll have to move on and put it on the infamous eBay.
angelkiller117 Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I'll tell you, I wish I had the money to buy it right now : \, I hope it goes to someone who will take real good care of it.Also I'd like to see some more pics before it goes, angelkiller117 at gmail dot com
silentman Posted June 7, 2007 Posted June 7, 2007 I owned that one for a while. That should add some value
zorrow Posted June 28, 2007 Author Posted June 28, 2007 I'm revising my conditions, given that the USD-to-CND exchange rate is way low at this moment. So, I'm also having second thoughts about selling this guitar, but if someone pays me 1600 CANADIAN dollars via PayPal I would eat PayPal fees and the shipping (US or Canada only), and you'll get the guitar with the L-500XL and the original humbucking and everything.First arrived, first served!
zorrow Posted June 29, 2007 Author Posted June 29, 2007 Hey! That's just aboot $1,500 U$D these days!Yep. But even at that price I would be loosing some money, as I paid 1200 USD + PayPal fees + the new Kahler pieces (springs + steel saddles set) + pro adjustement + the L-500XL. And if I add all what I've spent on that guitar at the exchange rates of those times, it is way more than 1500 USD nowadays.Edited to add: And please notice the buyer will eat currency conversion fees by paying me in Canadian Dollars, yes; but I would eat PayPal fees and shipping costs on my side. I understand it's just an "on-the-edge" deal, but it's still fair for both sides, IMHO.
cmatthes Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 Agreed that's a fair deal - that one IS a nice guitar. I've played it, and it is light, resonant and balls-out cool.
zorrow Posted June 30, 2007 Author Posted June 30, 2007 SOLD!Thank you for your interest!-- BTW, how do I modify the topic's title to state that it's already sold?
