jwhitcomb3 Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 A few weeks ago I was talking with BCR Greg about a custom order. He suggested Korina for a tonewood, and since I wasn't familiar with it, I thought I'd buy a used Korina Artist and rip out the P90 pickups and install mini humbuckers and make various other modifications so it would act as a mock-up of the guitar I wanted to custom order.I remembered that Brewmaster had been trying to sell his Artist Korina so I contacted him and we struck up a deal. The pickups had been changed to Rio Grande P90s (Jazzbar and Bluesbar, I assume), but that didn't matter because I was ripping them out anyway......except they sound so damn good! In fact, this guitar is fast becoming my number 1. So I've got two brand-spankin' new gold Gibson Minibuckers sitting idle and don't think I can sell my wife on getting ANOTHER guitar as a mock-up.BTW, korina is very cool. It's got the warmth of mahogany and the snap of maple. Suddenly the idea of a Korina Newport seems very appealing!GAAAH! I thought I'd had this GAS thing licked.-Jonathan
ET_KenW Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 GAAAH! I thought I'd had this GAS thing licked. It is never licked. It insidiously waits for the most inopportune time to rip you up.PS: I'm glad someone got Brew's AK. It was one that deserved to stay in the club.
BTMN Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 Yeah, I got G.A.S. soooo beat, when my friend "mentioned" yesterday he was going to sell his newly acquired '97 Mahogany Standard, I blurted out a price before even thinking could I cover it. Twenty three hours later, I'm loving it. Good luck beating Korina G.A.S. ......
edgar_allan_poe Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 Korina Gas....its tough to beat. I have failed miserably From left to right... 1. One piece Korina body with one piece Korina neck, rosewood board. 2. One piece Korina Body with one piece Korina neck, Brazillian board. 3. One piece Korina body, hollow, Redwood top, Brazillian board.
BCR Greg Posted May 3, 2005 Posted May 3, 2005 Hey, Poe! Can you post that pic a few HUNDRED more times? LOLMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmKorina.......

Tonejunkee would know which ones they are.
jwhitcomb3 Posted May 4, 2005 Author Posted May 4, 2005 The one thing that korina GAS has going for it is that it isn't as visually striking as, say, figured maple or koa, and doesn't photograph terribly well. So it is easier for me to resist a picture of a korina guitar...so far.-Jonathan
DavidE Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 I owned Nightwolf's Korna Artist but it just didn't do anything for me. Nice burst on it though.
hardheartedbill Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 I'm looking for a pair of minihummers if ya want to move em
silentman Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 I played an artist korina HB a week or so ago. Awesome guitar. Had more spank than a tele clean. Didn't like gobs of gain, but it sounded good in that difficult to dial in middle ground.
Craig Posted May 4, 2005 Posted May 4, 2005 P-90s are tone monsters. I like the way they seem to "smack" the sound back at you. I've never tried them in Korina, but my old Gibby LP Jr had some great tone, I still could puke thinking about how I sold it so cheaply....
