tomteriffic Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 I just stumbled on an ad for these puppies. It sure looks to me like they didn't waste any time coming up with a knockoff of the Talladega. Sort of...
atquinn Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Yeah, it's possibly a Huber knock-off? I remember seeing Nik post somewhere about how he went to Namm a while back and saw all sorts of Dolphin clones.-Austin
tombo Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 It's not really a copy of anything. They know their brand recognition in the U.S. is high, but they can't sell their LP copies there. So, they had to do something in order for their guitars to even be accepted into the U.S. without getting their headstocks cut off. The $750 Tokai LPs here are much nicer (IMO) than the Gibson LP Stds. they have in the shops. Go up to the $1400 Tokai LPs and 335s and you get all U.S.A. electronics/wiring, etc. They leave no reason to even consider a Gibson (production model). YMMV.
BTMN Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 http://www2.wbs.ne.jp/~tokai/newpage8-new-model.html Yummy!!!
JohnnyB Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 Talledega copy? With the string-through tail, it screams "Schecter."
Pieman Posted June 26, 2007 Posted June 26, 2007 In 1984, I think it was, one of our offices represented "Fender Base" (LOL) in copyright litigation vs. Tokai. I always wondered what happened to the Tokais but they simply disappeared. Around the same time we represented Puma in another knock off case. One shoe had a dog with three legs and one had a four-legged doggie. Can't remember which was which. We finally had to lock up one shoe of each of the pairs because the sets of shoes were disappearing.
killerteddybear Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 One shoe had a dog with three legs and one had a four-legged doggie. Well, that was the problem with the litigation - a puma is a cat!
