BubbaVO Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Let's hear the stories and the pics about that one piece of gear that was truly world class, but you got rid of (or that you came so close to getting but for some reason or another you couldn't pull the trigger). For me it was this '94 DuoTone...as is my custom, I'll low ball bid on e-bay. I saw a new Talladega and sent in a bid that I thought would not be accepted since it was too low. But the seller took it. Crap! Time to scramble for for some cash - away went the Studio and DT. My Studio was a good guitar, but the DT was special. Greg did his majik on it and it produced lotsa good tones. Marshal ended up buying it from me. And where its gone since, I'm not too sure. Sure enough, I've got GAS for another DT. If I can move that Centaura...
Willie G. Moseley Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 Whenever I see/hear the title of your topic, I think of pawn shop prizes I should have jumped on right then and there, instead of waiting. I've missed items by as little as a half-hour, returning (sometimes after having visited an ATM or getting a cash advance on a credit card at a nearby bank) after 30 minutes to find the instrument's been sold. One of the worst examples was a '71 Gibson ES-335 (in that ugly walnut color) that I coulda bought for $200, a '67 Rick 4001 in Fire-Glo for $250, etc. However, in the over 35 years I've been pawnshopping for guitars, it seems like there have also been some steals to balance out such so-called losses. Hope this rumination isn't necessarily off-topic.
BubbaVO Posted February 23, 2008 Author Posted February 23, 2008 . Hope this rumination isn't necessarily off-topic. Willie, it's that kind of rumination that's the cyber-bar stool was meant for.
hamerhead Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 '58 3/4-size LP Junior. Sold it to pay the rent - about 25 years ago - for $275. No pictures of it, but it inspired this: This one goes to my youngest daughter when I croak. BubbaVO - My first Duotone was identical to yours, and probably the best of 3 or 4 that I've had since. That's another I'd like to have back.
harry65 Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 too many to count but my late 60's marshall 8 X 10 cab was the in a word.......heaven, ahhh, the stupidity of youth....................................
zorrow Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 This one was world-class, no doubt. I just never got used to the thin neck, so I decided to sell it. I sold it to a guy in South Florida who once was kicked out from the HFC -- he got in contact with me through a respectable member here. The guy in South Florida said he was looking for a VKK because he wanted to own the Judas Priest pair, so I decided to sell it to him -- ok, I needed the money too and I didn't like the guitar that much after all. But weirdly enough, just several weeks after the sale I saw it for sale on eBay! :-| Nice, huh? I have no idea where it might have ended now.

slipbeer Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 You mean like the guy who offered me a 56 Les Paul Goldtop and a 57 Les Paul Custom for $600 back in 1975 because his furnace had gone out?Of course, I declined because I already had a NEW Les Paul. A new 12 pound Norlin pancake body standard. Why would I want a couple of OLD Les Pauls?
sonic1974 Posted February 23, 2008 Posted February 23, 2008 I had a Goldtop '72 Les Paul Deluxe, had the minihums. Heavy as a rock, but played really nice. I also had a nice 50 watt Mesa Boogie, I really liked the EQ system on it. I sold both, for stupidly low amounts to a pawn shop. I was in school and had gotten myself into a financial jam. I love the Studio Custom I have now, but there are days that I miss that GT, and that Boogie had a really cool liquid sounding sustain for leads. But mostly I miss the Les Paul cause it was my first "real" guitar and it had a lot of good memories. Picked it up for 900$, would cost around 2200$ today, even though it's a Norlin. Maybe I need a GT Studio with P-90s to cheer me up! lol
