santellavision Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 You can get basically the same strap for about $13. at MF. (Sure, it's not vintage, nor says Hamer on it, but who cares?)Checkerboard Strap

BTMN Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 Cant look at Evilbay at the moment but if it is a Bobby Lee Hamer branded strap from the early '80's I have seen them get to over a hundred before. Wish I have a few to use myself. I loved those straps.
Steve Haynie Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 the fact that the Hamer strap in the auction has its original packaging is what is driving up the price on that one. It appears to be unopened/unused. The original Hamer straps are different than the one being sold by Musician's Fiend. They had a loosely woven cloth sewn over a vinyl back. Newer straps have a printed pattern on a tightly woven cloth.
serial Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 The old Hamer straps are great straps. I've still got two or three that I've been using daily (or pretty close) since I got them in '82 or so. That's a good run indeed. No one makes a checkerboard strap that looks anything close IMHO and quality is spotty depending on manufacturer. The old Hamer/Bobby Lee straps are a machined cloth pattern over a stiff backing material. There were some that were out 8-10 years ago that used the same checkerboard material, but the backs were black nylon, which is also really good (actually, I prefer these b/c I got some in XL when BCRGreg ordered them). I've got several of those.$251 is a lot for a strap, but I haven't seen one sell for less than a hundred $$ in years.
acb Posted March 17, 2008 Posted March 17, 2008 $251 is a lot for a strap.thats more than i paid for my b&c '77 sunburst.just a matter of time before someone spends the magic $350 for a hamer STRAP.
