opinion on lefty strats strung righty?

I'm curious, what's your take on a Hendrix style lefty to righty conversion? I imagine quite a few of you guys have had strats like that? -The bridge pup should end up sounding a bit more balanced as a result, I imagine.

I like them. They are surprisingly comfortable to play too.

I couldn't disagree more.

Sure it looks cool (few things look cooler), but as for playing, the bloom is off the rose after about 10 minutes. The controls are nowhere near where they are useful, plus THEY'RE UPSIDE-DOWN. I guess you could call it comfortable, if you were playing while laying down on a bed of nails.

It just makes you appreciate Jimi's greatness that much more. But with all due respect, you're not Jimi. You're Jimbilly.

Be the best Jimbilly that you can be.

And lefties are evil.

Easier to get the tonal nuances by buying one of these, especially when they're the Stupid Deal of the Day at $399 as they have been twice in recent weeks.

Hey whatever floats your boat. I personally wouldn't own one just because of the limitations on my playing in higher registers, but thats me.

Arpeggiated; I see you're from Shelton, you're just down the beach a ways! -I'm in Tacoma.

I'm mostly just wondering, it seems like a neat idea, but the proof is probably in how often you see them played, -pretty much never.

I like 'em and a lefty Strat is on my short list of stuff yet to get in my guitar days. I don't ride the controls much at all, so that's never been an issue for me. Not having the body contour doesn't bother me b/c I play Teles and am used to that. The fret access is a little bug, but one I can work around.

Here's the biggest drawback-the only lefty guitar I think you can really play righty is a Strat. I'm not crazy about Strat sounds, so that's kept me from getting one.

Christ. if there was ever any question that you two are twins...

If you think it's "playable" lefty, then you should try it for any extended period. You'll wonder why you did. Honesly, it is without question the ultimate poseur move, edging out the donning of a western hat and purple bandana. Other than that, there is simply no Earthly reason why you'd want to play one upside-down.

You don't use the controls, you don't need the upper register, and you don't like Strat sounds.

Sounds like the perfect guitar for you.

I need a platform for the lefty Kahler I have laying around.

I actually love Strat necks (and Jazzmaster necks) so that's a big draw for me.

Obviously, if you have an opinion Kiz, all other opinions MUST be wrong!

It's not a poseur thing - if you like something, that's all that matters. If you don't, that's YOUR prerogative. I like the reverse headstock change of string tension too, but that doesn't make me (or anybody else who likes that) a poseur, does it? What about all the lefties who play a righty Strat because they can't find a lefty one? Are they poseurs too?

If you like the string tension, then get the lefty-necked one that Muse posted.

Not everyone is wrong that disagrees with me (although most are, as it turns out), but you can't deny the poseur quotient of the lefty Strat for a righty. What's next? Checkerboard Standards?

OOps...

I know you two shared a cell, but do you still share a brain? lol

:-D <--------BIG smilie!

The ONLY reason for a righty to flip a lefty Strat over is to LOOK like Jimi, which is the very definition of a poseur. Certainly nowadays when replacement necks, replacement pickguards and swimming pool routes are commonplace, one can easily achieve the string-length thing and the opposite bridge pickup tilt with a right-handed guitar. Steve Miller was probably going for those sounds back in the day when he flipped a lefty Strat over, but he was a poseur for doing so. You don't look at the "Fly Like an Eagle" album cover and say "wow, look what Steve Miller did with that Strat, now THAT'S a different take." You say "wow, he's doing the Jimi thing." Don't even get me started on Yngwie and Tracii Guns. If we can't agree that those guys are poseurs, we're so far from being on the same page that it isn't even worth continuing this discussion.

Even Ty Tabor had the good sense to have Hamer put the controls in the proper place on his reverse Cali.

It bugs the crap out of me, lefties are hard enough to find without all the damn right handed poseurs snatching them all up! Don't even get me started on those jimi hendrix strats fender did a few years back.

Something that occurred to me on the way home from work: RICK NIELSEN used a flipped lefty Strat in his "multiple guitars strapped on at once" schtick. Jeebus, Matthes Twins! No wonder you two are all into the concept. Is there no end to your Uncle Ricky worship? Next you'll both be growin' braided goatees down to your breastbones!

Clearly, I was referring to those who would dress like SRV, not SRV himself. Wake up.

Ever hear of the Flying Vee or the Steinberger?

Jesus! If Albert King played Power Pop, you'd both be clamoring for lefty walnut Vees, smoking deep bowled pipes, and sporting a couple of gold teeth.

I'd Photoshop it, but I'm losing interest....LOTT?

Wide awake here. You were "clearly" referring to Jimi.

LOL! No...I wasn't and no, you aren't.

Now that you mention it, a lefty Vee would pose no problem whatsoever for me. Complete fret access w/o those silly knobs to use. Oh, but of course, the toggle would be up top for that "bap-pap-pap-pap-pap" Ace stutter stuff.
