bruce919 Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 I have kept my eye out for a Mirage I one for a while now, but have not seen one for sale in Months. Anyone know of any? If you have one you want to unload , maybe we can work out a trade of some type.
flattop Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 Got 2 b honest chuml, bin the Mirage get the Studio Archtop instead, far better guitar.I cant work out what the Mirage is about, lacks the sustain of the Studio, lacks the spark of the Strat, doesnt sound like a Les Paul, what is it good at????.One Dead guitar
BubbaVO Posted April 4, 2008 Posted April 4, 2008 check the chimneys... although, I have to admit I was seduced by what they could've been....
Travis Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Don't know what you guys are talking about. This one is a monster. Although I am thinking about having some surgery performed on it......
Travis Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Greg,What do you think of a pair of Gregwinds and a P90 in the middle? Think it would work?
hamerhead Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 lacks the spark of the Strat, doesnt sound like a Les Paul, what is it good at????.It's very good at being unique. Some people like that.
BCR Greg Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Travis, I love the way your twisted mind works.........
holLoWskull Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Where were you when I was selling my extra one a few months back They don't get the love they deserve from some people, so I'm sure one will show up here or on ebay sometime between now and summer time. As for flattop's comments....well to each their own I guess, but my experience with all my Mirages couldn't be further from the opposite. My opinon of the Mirage lineup is similar to Greg's...excellent platforms for modification. I'll go out on a limb and say that you can make them more versatile than ANY other (non-custome ordered) Hamer with regards to being a live situation "one guitar does it all" axe. Here's my latest Mirage I creation....Rio Tallboy/Halfbreed singles and a BBQ F-spaced bridge pickup, and for good measure a Mannmade/Fishman powerbridge. This Mirage and my Duotone are currently getting the most gig time. Now it does just about EVERYTHING you could ask of a guitar quite well....certainly not a dead guitar at all. Back to topic, Bruce919...if you can appreciate some of Hamer's more "outside the box" designs like the Phantom Custom, Eclipse, Duotone, etc...then I think you'll be pleased with any of the Mirage line.
flattop Posted April 5, 2008 Posted April 5, 2008 Ive had a couple of Mirage 1s ,tried every type of pickup modification (Seymour,Dimarzio etc),but always found them nasal sounding guitars with little sustain especially for a glued neck design. My bolt on Stratocasters blew the doors of them, and my Studio Customs knocked them dead.Everyone to their own but i can sure understand why Hamer dropped the design after only a few years.
tythety Posted April 28, 2008 Posted April 28, 2008 I just bought a II from qballer and has totally surprised by the crisp bite and growl it has, not to mention the tuning stability. It's one of the best sounding and looking guitars I've ever owned. I wish I could have bought one back when they were going for $350! They are fantastic. I wish you success, and if there is an extra I out there... let me know!
