yeah I saw that one too. The temptation to hit the BIN was great, but I realized it doesn't fit the music I'm currently playing and would end up being a $1050 room decoration  Very cool guitar IMHO...from the pickups to the pimp daddy gold hardware and paint, but I have to take away a couple style points for selling it without strings :D Hopefully someone here nabs it.

Yea, but what I'm asking is "Is it a real P90 T-51 (and is there such a thing), or a parts guitar with a Hamer neck."

P100's, a Gibson pickup, on a Hamer? Surely not original. I wonder how much of that guitar is original Hamer. Any way to tell?

I agree that it would be wise to be skeptical. I also don't like how he says he played the hell out of it, yet the finish is in "near mint" condition. He never says what's not "near mint". No photos of the case, no strings on the guitar in the photos, small photos, no close up photos, etc... At least it has a wilky bridge, a Hamer sign.

I was assuming the only real Hamer part was the neck, but who knows? Not too concerned either way, since the guitar doesn't push my buttons.

Very cool. If original.

Still a cool idea if it isn't, but that would impact whether I'd want it. That one would stand out enough if it was real that somebody might remember it.

the 1/2" edge radius looks correct (normal tele is 3/8")...

...although you can get 1/2" edge radius from some after market body manufacturers...

tough to say...

Response from the seller:

I have a new set of Ernie Ball Slinky 10's to put on the guitar. I took the old ones off to clean up this guitar and the old strings needed changing out anyway. Yes this is the original finish and everything is original on the guitar. The pickups are Seymore Duncan P100's. When I bought this guitar at House of Guitars in San Antonio the salesman said the guitar was made for a player in Austin. I can't recall who it was. I knew this was a rare piece and I liked it and I had to have it. Let me try to post another photo with the guitar in the case. Thanks.

looks like a familiar Hamer lover was confident enough to go for it. Man, why were there so skeptical on this one? Even if you really scrutinized things like the hardware and body contours everything seemed legit in the photos and description, and we all have seen many a unique Hamer that defies the norm show up for sale over the years. Regardless of how many Hamers any of us have seen or owned, there's bound to be a few unusual ones that none of us have seen or heard about before. Oh well, bottom line...great score if it's as described in the auction.

Maybe because no one here had ever seen one before?

Another possibility: It was listed on ebaY.

I think it IS original. For what it's worth, the parts appear to be correct, the story seems more than plausible, and Hamer did some pretty unusual custom stuff back then too. The ONLY reason I'd doubt it is that I've seen way too many parted-together guitars pitched as "One-of-a-kind custom shop" Hamers over the last few years. The bolt-ons are the easiest to pull this sort of thing on, that's all.

Somebody will probably get a very cool unique Hamer for a good price...

Yeah, even if it came with Duncans P100's could have been added after. An easy mod to restore. The output jack looks like the ones used on T-51's (hard to see from the bad angle). And the bridge should be correct. A cool guitar indeed.
