cmatthes Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 '92 B-12A in that cool MATTE BLACK finish. I've seen two others like this one apart from Jeff Ament's (with the Ovation bowl coating), but these are pretty rare birds. Cool chit. "Ament B-12A"
unfun 75 Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 I'd like to have a 4 stringer short-scale or medium-scale version of that guitar. Think Hamer would do that? Nah. I'd have to have the two boomers like Jeff's, too.
cmatthes Posted June 29, 2008 Author Posted June 29, 2008 I'll bet they would do it - no problem. EL has gotten a few satin finishes done recently. Boomers might make the cut there as well (??).
Jack C Posted June 29, 2008 Posted June 29, 2008 Just a word of warning. I believe there was one Ament 12ver out there with some sort of neck problem. I know nothing about this particular bass or seller, but I do know there was one Ament that had issues.
cmatthes Posted June 29, 2008 Author Posted June 29, 2008 Jack - that one was on sale in a shop on 48th St. I checked it out a few years back when I was in the City, but I believe it is still in the posession of the guy who purchased it either from there or from the guy who bought it from the shop.I don't believe that this is the same bass.

Might have actually been Tony B who bought it too.Peter.
cmatthes Posted June 29, 2008 Author Posted June 29, 2008 My bad then - I thought Jon mentioned that the neck issues were repairable and that he still had possession of it. I may have been confusing that one with another 12'ver.

cmatthes Posted June 29, 2008 Author Posted June 29, 2008 The one on eBay looks like it could be a matte black finish instead of the Ovation bowl spray that was on the black one on 48th St. If I recall correctly (it's been several years since I initially checked that one out!), at least one of the truss rods had issues and it didn't play all that well in the shop on the other one.
mc2 Posted June 30, 2008 Posted June 30, 2008 Hey....this is NOT the same one that you guys are thinking of. I actually got offered this one on EBAY (privately) last week for $1400 and turned it down because I own two Aments already. And it IS flat black, not the normal Ovation textured black like other Aments.BTW...that other Ament B12A that was in Rudys NYC, that has some mistaken legend about that the neck was bad DOES NOT HAVE A BAD NECK OR TRUSS PROBLEM. I, along with Inspector12, both went in and played in and checked out the truss rods before buying it. It actually plays better than most 12vers I've played and I've never once had to adjust the neck in the last five years since I've had it....has a Pao Ferro fingerboard too! This one on EBAY is still a good deal if it stays under, say, $1600 IMO.
cmatthes Posted June 30, 2008 Author Posted June 30, 2008 Agreed w/Jon. Somebody got a great deal on that bass.
