specialk Posted August 16, 2008 Posted August 16, 2008 Mid 70s, and JJ Cale's "Cocaine" was high on the charts for Clapton. I went and saw Clapton. The opening act was The Ohio Players. Talk about not needing to hurry to get to the show... Any others?
Jorge Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Trixter, opening for Def Leppard. Actually, there were two opening acts that night. The other was Great White, which were, well...great!
Willie G. Moseley Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Dr. Hook opening for Wishbone Ash in '74. Hook had had a hit or two, but wouldn't let the audience decide if they were a decent band or a comedy act. In spite of noticeable booing, they even did an encore. The Ash was the original lineup, on tour to promote WISHBONE FOUR.
serial Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 .38 Special. As I mentioned in the other thread, they were the definition of suck.
Feynman Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Poison for DLR, Skyscraper tour, Nashville, 198---8? I hear that Poison went on to slightly eclipse DLR's solo success, but I don't think they would have if it was based solely on that performance. Oh yeah, and C.C. DeVille was sweating WAY too much. It was disgusting.
Jeroen Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 Saw Dare opening for Europe back in i guess 1988... I've heard that they had to change theire show cause they seem to be better the the headliner!!Jeroen
HamerHokie Posted August 17, 2008 Posted August 17, 2008 I would say that in the late 70s when inflation was hitting its double digit peaks, opening acts were more bargain-bin. I went from being able to see AC-DC and Aerosmith on the same bill, to seeing Cheap Trick with a band called The Yipes.
