roadrunnerld Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 hard to see whether USA is on the headstock. USA models don't have string trees do they?
roadrunnerld Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 that's not a wilkinson bridge and it looks weird in relation to the pickguard. I think it's Korean
mirrorimij Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 The first picture says it is a 1999 model. I don't recall any T51s made in New Hartford except for an "Esquire" like T51 made for Rick Nielsen in 97.I think I see a USA on the logo but it is very hard to tell for sure. I will try to contact the seller and take a look at it.Bob
tomteriffic Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 3 Piece ash body noted in that first photo doesn't sound right at all.
mirrorimij Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 D'oh. The lack of a skunk stripe rules out a USA.How did I miss that at first.Case closed.
atquinn Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 3 Piece ash body noted in that first photo doesn't sound right at all.I had a T51 with a 3-piece ash body, so that part isn't unusual.-Austin
teleman Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 It has string trees and does not have Sperzel tuners. Also, the bridge is not the standard Wilkinson.
mirrorimij Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 I just got an email from the seller. I informed him that isn't a USA t51. We'll see if he changes the ad.
Jimbilly Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 No Sperzels and No Wilky. The headstock shape is wrong, the curve under the logo should be very even, that one is flat to concave. The logo placement is way different than mine too.
holLoWskull Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 No Sperzels and No Wilky. The headstock shape is wrong, the curve under the logo should be very even, that one is flat to concave. The logo placement is way different than mine too.The Sperzels aren't necessarily on all T-51's...the latter made ones (96' - 97' ish) had Schaller tuners on them from what I remember. IIRC most of the Korean T-51M guitars had a black headstock w/ white Hamer decal and a Made in Korea sticker on the back of the headstock. Tough to tell from the pix, but this one looks like it's sans decal (and the headstock face is obviously like a USA T-51's). The Hamer logo does look a little out of place, and the headstock shape looks more like a T-62, Diablo, Centaura than the usual more 'tele' shaped USA T-51 but who knows? The bridge is different, but people here have replaced the Wilkinson T100 w/ more traditional 3-barrel designs. I'm leaning towards import myself, but I'd ask for more pix just to make sure if I were interested in buying. Hell even at that price it's not too out of line for a used Korean one (maybe $50 over the going rate for a used Slammer series), and if it turns out to be USA you made a great score!
mirrorimij Posted November 4, 2008 Posted November 4, 2008 No USA T51s or Daytonas ever left the Hamer factory with a neck that didn't have the skunk stripe. A t62 style neck (and those had a Pao Ferro fingerboard) would not fit the neck pocket of a USA T51 body. This is either fugazi or import. The buyer told me that he doesn't know much about Hamers and this guitar was part of a "large purchase". I explained to him why his can't be a USA model. He said thanks but I noticed he didn't change the ad.
