Hi everyone, this is my first post w/the fanclub. My name is Tim and I'm the proud owner of a Korean-made Hamer Standard. I've outfitted it with Seymour Duncan pickups, Distortion in the bridge, and '59 in the neck. I had it re-fretted a year and a half ago when I bought it. I also put on Spertzel locking tuners, DiMarzio pickup selector and Gibson speed knobs. I'm not sure of the date of manufacture. It's the honey-colored finish. I play a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Amp and Boss ME50 box. I really like this guitar but my initial search was for the same guitar but in black. I've only seen two on eBay in a couple years of searching. If anyone has a KOREAN-made (vintage should be mid-90's to early-2000s) black, w/white pickguard, Standard I would be interested in buying or trading my honey-colored Standard.

I emphasized that it must be Korean-made because I'm not interested in a Chinese-made model. Those have binding on the body, cream-colored pickup rings, cheaper neck dot inlays, and non-see through control knobs. Of course, I would be interested in a USA Standard in all black, no body binding, and white pickguard, but I've never seen a USA Standard in this color scheme. Perhaps there's a custom USA Standard out there as I've described?

I also own an Ibanez AXS 320 DRF (the "DRF" stands for dark red finish) I've customized it with a polished stainless steel pickguard and moulded piece of maple behind the bridge to prevent string breakage. Other than that it's all stock and is in fabulous shape. My only complaint about the guitar is that due to the body shape and position of the strap button; I find that it has poor balance. I think if one repositioned the top strap button to beneath the neck it might cure this. I would be willing to trade (or sell) this guitar as well.

Many thanks, happy New Year,

Tim

Welcome. There are a few (and I mean very few) USA Standards out there in the configuration you are looking for. They were built in Arlington Heights around the same time as the limited edition Korina Standards and built along side the natural color mahogany Standards. This would be around 1996.

Good luck in your search.

Ditto - most of the black Standards like that I've seen were either '96 or '97 models. The majority of that run/model were natural mahogany.

Haven't seen too many of those lately.

HMMMM I thought he still has this one and I figure Sir Daniel will part with Black Bart about as soon as I would part with Shorty. B)B):D If he sold it I AINT selling mine! B):D:D:D:P

I will keep an eye open for a Black Korean Standard the new guy is looking for. One question? Honey colored, Flametop or Plain? I have always wanted a Natural Flametop Import Standard. Those were only out the first year and I have not seen one in years.

Um-I think they were talking about THIS part of "reading" the post. B)

THIS one was a black USA unbound all-mahogany model, but I like the Hamer-refinned yellow better. For the record, I paid less for mine than the standard price for a Korean one and it was in practically NOS condition-thanks Daddy's Music!!!

Mine's a '97 BTW:

This might be one - may not be EXACTLY what you're looking for, but it's cheap, and I believe it's a Korean-made version v. Chinese (XT):

Hi thanks for all your replies. It was very interesting to learn that there are a few, unbound, black, USA Standards out there. I'm very happy to add that about a week ago I purchased a Korean, black, Standard on eBay. I just about stole it too, (not quite like the club member who scored a black USA Standard and refinished it in yellow). I'm just waiting for all my new add-ons, after it's all set-up I'll post a photo of it and my original, honey-colored one. BTW, the honey-colored one is plain top (not flamed maple).

Once my black one is ready to play, I hope to sell my original one. It's still an awesome rock guitar, I just don't need two Standards.

Cheers,

Tim

well, I had Chinese XT Standard, and honestly think it was a good guitar for the money. The guy who bought it from me still thanks for selling it when we meet.
